Wie man unschwer erkennen kann habe ich bisher meistens die Karibik und die umliegenden Staaten besucht. Irgendwie hat es mich in die anderen Gegenden noch nicht hingezogen. Aber Südamerika wird noch verstärkt eingebunden, da gibt es einiges zu sehen. Da die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika eine Fläche bedecken die weitaus größer ist als Europa werde ich diese noch mal nach den Bundesländern unterteilen.

Everybody can easy recognize I have most of the time visited the Caribbean and the surrounding countries. Anyhow this region does not attract me so much up to now. But South America will be more considered in the next plans, there are some very attractive areas there. Due the United States of USA covers a area which is much bigger then Europe I will sub divide them following the federal states.

Belize ist das einzige Land südlich von Mexiko, in dem englisch gesprochen wird. Dieses Land ist für mich der beste Platz in Amerika, entspannt und nicht so teuer wie sonst in der Karibik. Erinnerte mich an manche schöne Plätze in Asien. Außer Tauchen am zweitgrößten Barrierriff gibt es noch ein paar Maya Ruinen, die jedoch unserer Faulheit zum Opfer fielen. Belize City muss man nicht gesehen haben, am besten gleich weiter auf die vorgelagerten Inseln reisen. Überaschenderweise für Vodafone noch ein weißer Fleck auf der Landkarte!

Belize is the only country south of Mexico, where the English language is spoken. This nice country is for me the best place in America, relaxed and not so expensive as usual in the Caribbean. It reminds me on some great places in Asia. Except diving on the second largest barrier reef there are also some Mayan ruin, which we did not visit due we was too lazy. Its not worth to visit Belize City, at the best continue the trip straight to the offshore islands. Surprisingly this country is for Vodafone a white mark on the map!

Ambergris Caye ist die größte und nördlichste Insel, und mit der besten Infrastruktur ausgerüstet. Entlang der ganzen Küste stehen viele überwiegend kleine Hotels. Der kleine Ort San Pedro ist das Zentrum und zumindest in der Nebensaison richtig angenehm. Das Sun Breeze Hotel liegt am Strand, zu den Kneipen sind es gerade mal 5 min zu Fuß und zum Flughafen muss man nur über die Strasse gehen. Dazu liegt der beste Tauchanbieter direkt in der Anlage - fährt mehrmals wöchentlich nach Lighthouse - eine ideale Urlaubskombination.

Ambergris Cay is the biggest and northernmost island and has the best infrastructure in the country. Along the whole coastline are many predominantly small hotels. The small town San Pedro is the center point and at least in the low season directly convenient. The Sun Breeze Hotel is located straight on the beach, to the pubs and restaurants is it a 5 minutes walk and to reach the airport only cross the road. Additionally the best diving operator - rides several times a week to Lighthouse - is located straight in the hotel area, an ideal combination.

Das Lighthouse Reef ist das am weitesten von der Küste entfernte Atoll und bietet die besten Tauchplätze in der Region. Der berühmteste ist das Blue Hole, ein exakt kreisrunder Höhleneinsturz den bereits Cousteau beschrieben hat. Das Tauchen im Blue Hole ist nicht gerade berauschend, runter auf 40m, ein paar Stalaktiten anschauen und wieder rauf. Viel interessanter waren die anwesenden Grauen Haie, die ziemlich nahe gekommen sind. Der beste Tauchplatz im Atoll ist Half Moon Wall, mit sehr guter Sicht und vielen bunten Korallen.

The Lighthouse Reef is the most far atoll from the main coast and offers the best dive spots in the region. The most famous is the Blue Hole, a cave breakdown with an exact circle form which was already described by Jacques Cousteau. The diving in the Blue Hole is not really exciting, go down to 40m, watch for some stalactites and go up again. More interesting are the local grey sharks, which come very close on the way up. The best dive spot in the Lighthouse Reef is the Half Moon Wall, with very good visibility and many colorful corals.

Das Steuerparadies der Amis. Und gleichzeitig auch das Tauchparadies der Karibik, wie mir viele Amis bestätigt haben. Ob zwischen Steuer und Tauchen ein Zusammenhang besteht? Oder brauchen die einen ein Alibi wenn Sie dahin fahren. Na egal, die Inseln sind spitze und die Strände auch. Außerhalb von der größten Insel Grand Cayman wird dann auch die ganze Prozedur viel einfacher und Urlaub macht richtig Spaß. Nur bis zum Zahltag, dann wird es weniger spaßig. Wichtiger Tipp: alles vorab per Internet buchen inklusive Transfers.

The tax paradise of the Americans. And the dive paradise as well, as many Americans confirmed to me. Is there a connection between tax and diving? Or need one respective party a reason when they travel there. Never mind, The islands are excellent and the beaches too. Outside of the bigger island Grand Cayman the whole procedure will get much easier and the holidays will get really funny. Of course only up to the pay day, then it is less funny. Important tip: book everything including transfers in advance per internet.

Die erste Anlaufstelle nach Ankunft auf Cayman. Alle namhaften Hotelketten sind am 7 Miles Beach vertreten. Zum Tauchen empfehle ich die Nordküste, die Westküste die meistens betaucht wird ist schlechter. Außerdem ein Muss auch für Nichttaucher ist die weltberühmte Sting Ray City, bei der man bei 3m Tiefe mit grünen Muränen und Stingrays tauchen und Schnorcheln kann. Treasure Divers kann ich nicht empfehlen. Dafür machte ich beste Erfahrung mit den Tech Divers, die auch die Nordküste betauchen, Adlerrochen und Tarpons inklusive.

The entering point of the Cayman islands. All famous hotel chains are represented on the seven miles beach. For diving I recommend the north coast, the west cost which is mostly used for diving is worthier. Additionally a must as well for non divers is the world famous Sting Ray City, where everybody can dive and snorkel at 3m depth with big green Morays and Stingrays. Treasure Divers I would not recommend, but the best experience I have made with the Tech Divers, which are also diving on the north cost, including Eagle Rays and Tarpons.

Die kleinste Cayman Insel. Die Schotterpiste statt Landebahn kündigt an was nun kommt. Eine Insel nur zum Tauchen und Relaxen. Das Ressort befindet sich direkt am wunderschönen Strand. Zum Tauchen fährt man zur weltberühmten Bloody Bay Wall, die wirklich eine der besten Steilwände ist. Super Sicht, wenig Großfisch, dafür im Flachbereich sehr interessant. Die Tauchgänge werden auf 45-50 min limitiert, aber nicht ganz so streng gelebt. Alles spielt sich im Ressort ab und wenn die Preisliste nicht wäre könnte man meinen im Paradies zu sein.

The smallest island of the Caymans. The ballast runway announce what comes at next. An island only for diving and relaxing. The resort is located on a wonderful beach. For the diving the short trip goes to the world famous Bloody Bay Wall, which is really one of the best walls. Excellent visibility, less pelagic, but on the top of the reef it is very interesting. The dives are limited to 45-50 min, but not so strong controlled. All happens in the resort and when the price list would not exist you could imagine to be in the paradise.

Kolumbien hat aufgrund der Drogenkartelle nicht den besten Ruf und ich weis nicht ob ich das Festland besuchen sollte. Mir sind auch keine namhaften Urlaubsziele bekannt, weder auf der Karibischen noch auf der Pazifischen Küste. Weniger bekannt ist, das zu diesem Land auch einige Inseln in der Karibik gehören. Und auf diesen entlegenen Inseln merkt man nichts vom schlechten Ruf. Diese Inseln sind steuerfreie Zonen was natürlich das Einkaufen ganz interessant macht. Ansonsten bleibt nur noch relaxen und tauchen übrig.

Columbia has not the best image because of their drug connections and I don't know I like to visit the main land. Additional I am unaware of any popular vacation spots, neither on the Caribbean nor on the pacific coast line. Less known is that this country owns also some small islands in the Caribbean. And on this far reach islands nobody will realize something about the bad image. This islands are tax free zones what is of course very interesting for the shopping. Beside this remains only relaxing and diving.

Mitten in der Karibik gelegen eine ganze nette Insel mit viel Bacardi Gefühlen und schönen Stränden. Reaggy ertönt von überall und die All-Inklusive Hotels sind in Mode. Tauchen ist ganz ordentlich, insbesondere wenn wann das Vergnügen hat, mit Manni zu tauchen. Ich habe da einige Ammenhaie und viele Baracudas gesehen. Der Tauchbetrieb ist nicht einfach, da man jeweils durch die halbe Insel kutschiert wird. Im Mai kann es dort auch ganz heftig regnen. Die Anreise ändert sich wohl häufig, wir sind über Miami mit der LTU eingeflogen.

In the middle of the Caribbean sea a very nice island with a lot of Bacardi feeling and beautiful beaches. Reggie music sounds out of each corner and the All-Inclusive hotels are modern. Diving is acceptable, special when you have the pleasure to dive with Manni. I have seen some Nurse Sharks and many Barracudas. The diving procedure is not easy, due you will be driven through the half island to reach the dive operator. In May it could come down a heavy rain. The arrival procedure change often, we came in with German LTU via Miami.

Diese Insel ist für die Deutschen der gleichlautend mit der Karibik. Das wusste sogar Falko als Österreicher zu schätzen. Das Wetter und die Strände sind klasse, aber der Kontakt zu den Einheimischen wird aus den All-Inklusive Hotelburgen heraus nicht gepflegt, da ja weitgehend Neckermann Tourismus praktiziert wird. Die Wassertemperatur um die kühlen 24 grad, und viel Wind. Interessant wird das Land durch die immer stärker werdenden Höhlentauchaktivitäten, einige gute Höhlen wurden inzwischen entdeckt und freigegeben.

This island is for the Germans the embodiment of the Caribbean. That was already known and valued by the Austrian singer Falko. The weather and the beaches are excellent, but the contact to the locals is very limited due most tourists remain in the all-inclusive hotel castles. Most tourists are on package tours in this country. The water temperature reach cool 24 dgrs and a lot of wind. The country is getting interesting due the increasing cave diving activities, some good caves are already explored and free for diving.

Die Halbinsel Samana im Norden ist eigentlich ganz nett und ruhig. Die großen Tourismusströme gehen hier vorbei, außer es ist gerade Walbeobachtungs Saison. In den Hotelburgen spielt sich ein ruhiges Leben ab und der Strand ist auch ganz gut. Das Tauchen um die Las Ballenas ist mittelprächtig, die Tauchgänge waren meistens relativ flach, wenig Fisch, Sicht mittelmäßig. Die Riffe sind heftig zerfurcht und man kann da ganz gute erste Höhlentaucherfahrungen sammeln. Inzwischen hat das Höhlentauchen wohl weiter Einzug gehalten.

The peninsula Samana in the north is in effect nice and calm. The most tourist streams pass here by, except there is actually the whale watching season. In the hotel castles a quite live style and the sandy beach is well too. The diving around the rocks of Las Ballenas is moderate, the dives are mostly relative shallow, less fish, visibility moderate. The reefs are heavy channeled and who likes this kind of adventure can collect his first good cave diving experience. In between the cave diving continues to get popular.

Nach ein paar Tagen in Mexiko City, dass unbedingt sehenswert ist, sind wir weiter geflogen nach Yucatan. Da nehme man ab Cancun einen Mietwagen und fahre kreuz und quer durch das Land. Aber Warnung, die Topas demolieren jedes Auto. Yucatan ist nahezu tropisch und wohl die beste Wahl in Mexiko. Die Maya Ruinen sind allein eine Reise Wert, aber das Tauchen ist auch gut. Da kann man Kultur mit einer Tauchreise verbinden. Bester Ausgangspunkt ist da Playa del Carmen, das außer schönem Strand auch Unterhaltung bietet.

After a couple of days in Mexico City, which as absolute worth to be visited, we continued our trip to Yucatan. At the best to take in Cancun on the airport a car and then cross through the country by your own. But attention, the Topas on the roads can demolish every car. Yucatan is nearby tropical and the best choice in Mexico. The ancient ruins of the Maya are alone worth a trip, but the diving is also excellent. This trip combines a culture trip with a dive trip. Best starting point is Playa del Carmen, which offers beside a nice beach also nightlife.

Mexiko City ist eine riesige Stadt die auf einem Hochplateau steht. Die Größe wird einem beim Landeanflug mit dem Flieger so richtig bewusst, sehr schön anzusehen sind die umliegenden Berge. Durch die Höhe ist das Klima ganz erträglich und nicht so heiß. Mitten in der Stadt befinden sich einige Ausgrabungsstätten der Azteken und ein Museum. Auf dem Marktplatz werden am Wochenende sehenswerte indianische Tänze aufgeführt. Die ganze Stadt kann sehr gut mit der Metro erkundet werden, man sollte aber auch ganz gut zu Fuß sein.

Mexico City is a huge city which is located on a high plateau. The size will be recognized at the best at the landing with the plane, very nice to see are the surrounding mountains. Through the high the climatic conditions are quite acceptable and not so hot. In the center of the city are some archeological excavation from the Aztec and a great museum. On the market place on the weekends are performed well worth seeing Indian dances. The whole city can be explored with Metro, but then it is recommended to be good afoot.

Cozumel ist eine Insel vor Playa del Carmen und wird per Fähre oder direkt per Flug erreicht. Super klares blaues Wasser, aber leider auch viele Amis. Für diese ist die Karibik und insbesondere Cozumel wie für Europäer das Rote Meer. Nach amerikanischem Still werden zwei-tank-Tauchgänge in 3 Stunden praktiziert, da wird man nach 40 min mit 2/3 vollem Tank wieder herausgeholt. Mühsam habe ich die TG etwas verlängert und spöttisch den gleichen Tank wieder verwendet. Dafür kann man locker 4 TG pro Tag durchführen.

Cozumel is a small island in front of Playa del Carmen and will be reached by ferry boat or directly via airplane. There is fantastic clear blue water, but also a lot of US guys. For them the Caribbean and special Cozumel is like the Red Sea for the European. In American style there are performed two tank dives within 3 hours, you will be pulled of the water after 40min with still 2/3rd air in the tank. With some effort I have extended the dives a bit and to flout them I have used the same tank again for the next dive. It is easy to perform four dives a day.

Direkt vor Playa habe ich den Technical Diver Kurs mit Matt gemacht, jedoch war die Unterwasserwelt nicht berauschend. Danach bin ich zum Fundiving etwa 20km südlich nach Puerto Aventuras gefahren. Das Wasser ist nicht so klar wie in Cozumel, dafür fand ich einen guten Operator für lange Flachwasser TG. Nachdem wir immer nur mit 2 - 3 Leuten unterwegs waren, hat auch keiner gemeckert wenn wir mal über 70 min unter Wasser waren. Es gab Schildkröten und anderes Kleinzeug zu sehen und die Korallen waren auch ganz gut.

Directly in front of Playa I made the technical diver course with Matt, but the underwater landscape was not exhilarating. After this experience I traveled for the fun diving about 20km south to Puerto Aventuras. The water is not so clear as Cozumel, but I found an good operator which allowed long and nice flat water dives. Because we was only 2-3 divers on the boat, nobody shouted when we sometimes remained under water for 70 min. There was turtles and other small stuff and the coral's was also nice to see.

Xcalak liegt ganz im Süden, direkt an der Grenze zu Belize. Direkt vor der Küste liegt das zweitgrößte Barrier Riff der Welt. Hier ist das beste Meertauchen in Yucatan, viel Fisch und Korallen. Dafür sind die Anfahrten mühsam und ich musste einen Tag warten, bis endlich der Trip zur Banco Chinchorro mit zweistündiger rauer Überfahrt unternommen wurde. Sonst wird direkt vor der Küste getaucht, etwa mit Aventuras vergleichbar ist. Die Infrastruktur mit Ressorts und Kneipen ist bescheiden sowie die Strände schlichtweg nicht vorhanden.

The not much known Xcalak is located in far south, direct on the border to Belize. Directly offshore is placed the second biggest Barrier Reef of this world. Here is the best sea diving in Yucatan, a lot of fish and corals. But the approach is very difficult and I had to wait one day before the trip started to Banco Chinchorro with a two hours rugged boat crossing. On the other days there will be dived direct offshore, which is comparable to Aventuras. The infrastructure with resorts and restaurants is moderate and the beaches are not existing.

Superspitze, das beste Süsswassertauchen auf dieser Erde. Sicht 50m, Wasser 25 grad und Höhlen ohne Ende. Ich bin schon mit dem Vorsatz hingefahren, einen Höhlentauchkurs durchzuführen. Mit Matt fand ich dann den idealen Instruktor und nachdem wir immer nur zu zweit unterwegs waren war das Vergnügen perfekt. Der Höhlenkurs war sehr anspruchsvoll und schwieriger als der DM Kurs. Doppelflaschen, haarige Übungen und alles unter der strengen Aufsicht von Matt, der absolut keinen Fehler übersah.

Very excellent, the best freshwater diving on this earth. Visibility about 50m, water temperature 25 dgs. And caves without end. I was already traveling there with the intention to perform a cave course. With Matt I found the ideal instructor and due we was the only two on the road the pleasure was perfect. The cave diver course was very ambitious and more difficult then the Dive Master Course. Double tanks, difficult exercises and everything under the demanding control of Matt, who did not oversee any small failure.

Der erste Frage ist immer: wo liegen die denn? Die Inselgruppe Turks and Caicos sind ein Britisches Überseegebiet und geographisch eine Verlängerung der Bahamas Inselkette in den Osten. Südlich befindet sich die Dom Rep. Das Land rühmt sich sehr gute Tauchplätze und die besten Strände der Welt zu haben, ich kann da nicht widersprechen. Der Tourismus ist auf Provo noch in den Anfängen, es wird aber heftig gebaut. Auf Grand Turk ist noch gar nichts los. Für mich bisher das beste Urlaubsgebiet in Amerika.

The first question is all times: where is this place? The island group Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory and an geographically an extension of the Bahamas island chain to the east. South is the Dom Rep located. The country praise to have very good dive spots and the best beaches of the world, and I can't disagree. The tourism is on Provo still on the beginning, there are a lot of construction activities. Grand Turk is just a sleepy island where nothing happens. For me this is the best holiday and diving area in the Americas.

Provo wie die Insel auch genannt wird ist die Hauptinsel der Caicos Gruppe und Touristenzentrum des Landes. Die meisten Hotels und Restaurants liegen entlang der Grace Bay im Norden. Der Tourismus ist trotzdem noch als bescheiden anzusehen. Zum Tauchen werden mehrere Alternativen jeweils in einer Halbtagestour angeboten. Vor der Grace Bay ist es sandig mit mässige Sicht, an der Northwestwall wird es besser und absolute Spitzenklasse ist an West Caicos und French Caye angesagt. Die Sichtweite, Haie und Korallen sind spitze.

Provo how the island is called is the main island of the Caicos group and also the tourist center of the country. The most hotel and restaurants are located along the Grace Bay in the north of the island. The tourism is compared to other destinations still moderate. for dive trips are some alternatives for half day tours offered. In front of the Grace Bay it is sandy with moderate visibility, on the Northwest Wall its getting better and absolute excellent it is in West Caicos and French Caye. The visibility, sharks and corals are superb.

Auf Grand Turk liegt die Hauptstadt des Inselstaates. Sonst ist die ganze Insel nur ein total verschlafenes Nest, verwunderlich bei der Nähe zu den USA. Dafür bietet die Insel aber exzellente Tauchplätze direkt vor dem Strand. Entlang der ganzen Westküste spannt sich in kurzer Entfernung eine Steilwand, an dessen Kante erstklassiges Tauchen möglich ist. Aufgrund der Nähe ist man nach jedem Tauchgang zurück am Strand. Sehr beeindruckend sind die Sichtweiten mit über 40m, Steilwände, Korallen, Schwämme und viele tropische Fische.

On Grand Turk is the capitol of the island nation located. Other vice the whole island is only a sleepy town, remarkable because of the proximity to the USA. But the island offer excellent dive spots close to the beach. Along the whole west coast is in short proximity a steep wall and on their edge is first class diving possible. Because of the nearness the boat goes back to the beach after each dive. Very impressive is the visibility with over 40m, the steep walls, the corals, the Caribbean sponges and many tropical fishes.

Das Land unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten, wie auch Arnie gerade bestätigt. Amis gehen in der Regel morgens und manchmal auch nachmittags auf einen Doppeltauchgang. Bei 30 min Tauchzeit wird etwa 40min nach dem Ersten gleich der Zweite TG ausgeführt. Da komme ich natürlich etwas frustriert mit 70% des Tankinhaltes wieder raus. Ich unterteile das Land noch mal in die Bundesstaaten. Bisher hatte ich nur das Vergnügen vier von diesen Staaten zu besuchen, jedes Mal als Stopover für ein anderes mittelamerikanisches oder pazifisches Ziel.

The continent of the unlimited possibilities, as just again proofed by the Austrian Arnold. US divers mostly go in the morning, sometimes also afternoon, on a two tank dive. With a dive time of 30 min they start the second dive about 40min after the first. On such dives I am leaving the water with 70% of the air in the tank and getting frustrated. I sub divide the country again in the federal states, up to now I had the pleasure to visit four of this federal states, all times on a stop over for another middle american or pacific destination.

Im Südwesten der USA gelegen ist Kalifornien bisher für mich immer das Sprungbrett in den Pazifik gewesen. Über LA ist es immer noch der schnellste Weg. Der Großraum von LA bietet viele Sehenswürdigkeiten wie Hollywood, Santa Monica und Beverly Hills und riesige Einkaufszentren. Eine Fahrt entlang der Küste nach San Diego mit Abstechern in die Badeorte entlang der Autobahn ist auch ganz interessant. Weitere geplante Ziele sind San Franzisko und das benachbarte Las Vegas, sowie im Süden die Baja California in Mexiko.

In the south east of the USA located was California for me up to now only the springboard to the Pacific. Via LA it is still the fastest way. The metropolitan area of LA provides a lot of places of interest like Hollywood, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills as well as huge shopping center. A journey along the coast line to San Diego with site steps to the bathing resorts along the highway is also very interesting. Further planed destinations are San Francisco, the neighboring Las Vegas und in the south Baja California in Mexico.

Die Stadt der Engel. Nachdem man den schrecklichen Flughafen verlassen hat, wird es ganz interessant. Der Strand von Santa Monica und Malibu ist wie in den Fernsehserien, nur leerer. Überall Rollerskater und ein kleiner Rummelplatz war auch da. Früh am Morgen war die große Zahl von Pennern in den Strandgebieten nicht zu übersehen. Weiterhin sind natürlich Old Town, Hollywood und die Beverly Hills mit den unzähligen SL Autos sehenswert. The city of the Angels. After leaving the horrible airport it starts to get interesting. The beach of Santa Monica and Malibu are like to be seen in the television series, only emptier. Everywhere are roller skater and a small amusement park was also there. Early in the morning everybody can see the great number of bums in the beach areas. Further are of course the Old Town, Hollywood and Beverly Hills with the uncountable SL cars worth to be seen. Only for diving I did not found the time, but the island Catalina will be tried next time.

Die Rentner- und Promistadt mitten in der Wüste ist auf der Autobahn schnell von LA zu erreichen. Gleich neben der Stadt steigen senkrecht die Felsen hoch und mit einer Schweizer Seilbahn kann man bis an den Gipfel fahren und im Schnee herumspringen. Nachdem man sich abgekühlt hat kann man sich unten im heißen Wüstensand wieder aufwärmen. Die Stadt ist selbst flach gehalten, die meisten Häuser sind Villas der vornehmeren Art. Unmittelbar vor der Stadt sind tausende von Windmühlen zur Stromerzeugung aufgestellt.

The pensioner and prominent people city in the middle of the dessert is on the highway fast to reach from LA. Directly beside the city the rocks climb vertically in the sky and with a Swiss cable car everybody can ride to the crown and jump around in the show, all around the year. After cooling down you can drive down and heat up again in the hot dessert sand. The city themselves is flat and the most building are mansions of the exclusive kind. Just before the city are thousands of windmills for power generation.

Die Stadt an der Grenze zu Mexiko kann man in einem Tagestrip von LA gut erkunden. Auf dem Hinweg haben wir die Landstrasse am Meer verwendet und mehrere Abstecher in die Küstenorte gemacht. Da kann man Surfer und Seehunde zusammen im Wasser sehen. In San Diego sind uns im Hafen mehrere alte Segelschiffe aufgefallen, die besichtigt werden können. Das Zentrum ist im modernen Hochhausstil aufgebaut. Den Rückweg haben wir über die Autobahn genommen und dabei zufällig eine alte Cowboystadt entdeckt.

The city on the border to Mexico one can easy visit within a day trip from LA. On the way down we have used the road along the ocean and have done some sidesteps to the coastal villages. There one can see the surfers and seadogs together in the water. In San Diego we have seen some old sailing ships, which could be visited like a museum. The center of San Diego is build up in a modern high tower still. the way back we have used the highway and surprisingly we discovered an old town build up like a Midwestern cowboy village.

Florida ist der Sonneschein Staat in den USA. Für mich war es nur das Sprungbrett in die Karibik. Bisher haben wir nur Miami Beach und die Florida Keys besucht, beide waren eigentlich ganz nette Plätze. Tauchen ist insbesondere entlang den Keys möglich, von Miami aus wird auch Wracktauchen angeboten. Und natürlich gibt es im Norden die berühmten Höhlen. Wenn man sich einmal an die etwas anderen Ansichten, Verhaltensweisen und Sitten gewöhnt hat dann läuft es ganz gut. Am besten alles per Internet vorab buchen.

Florida is the Sunshine state of the USA. For me it was up to now the springboard to the Caribbean. Up to now we have visited Miami Beach and the Florida Keys, both was nice and interesting places. Diving is possible all along the Keys, offshore to Miami wrack diving is also provided. And of course in the north of Florida are the famous caves. When you acclimatize with the other views, attitudes and conventions then the way of live is acceptable. At the best book everything far in advance in the internet.

Miami Stadt ist kein besonders sehenswerter Ort, viel besser als da ist es eigenlich in Miami Beach. Da reiht sich ein Hotel an das andere und am Ocean Drive treibt sich nachts die Schicki Micki Szene mit den dicken Autos herum. Die klimatisierten Einkaufszenter sind gut zum abkühlen und essen, gewisse Artikel wie Jeans gibt es da auch günstiger als in Europa. Der lange und breite Strand sieht aus wie in den Filmen. Ein bereits gebuchter Tauchgang zu einem Wrack ist morgens abgesagt worden, weil wohl zuwenig Leute da waren.

Miami City is not much an inviting place, much better is it to stay in Miami Beach. There is one hotel on the next and on the Ocean Drive all the like-to-be-important people are coming for the nightlife with their big cars. The aircon shopping center are good for cooling down and having some lunch, also shopping is for some articles like jeans cheaper then in Europe. The long and wide beach looks like seen in the movies. One already booked dive to a nearby wrack was cancelled in the morning, due not enough divers appears.

Die Keys sind eine Inselgruppe die sich in einer Reihe in das Meer hineinziehen und mit Brücken verbunden sind. Bereits die Fahrt über die Inseln und Brücken ist äusserst faszinierend. An der äussersten Spitze liegt Key West, ein kleiner netter Ort mit guter touristischer Infrastruktur. Ich habe mir vorgenommen, da nochmal zum Tauchen hinzufahren. Auf unserem Tagesausflug haben wir unterwegs etwa zehntausend Harleys gesehen, da gerade ein jährliches Festival zu Ende ging. Ein sehr beeindruckendes Ereignis.

The keys are a group of islands which is connected by bridges and line up into the sea. Already the journey over the islands and bridges is very fascinating. On the furthest corner is located Key west, a small and friendly village with a good touristy infrastructure. I intend to go there again and next time of course for diving. On our daytrip we have seen on the road about ten thousands Harleys, because there had just finished a annual festival. A very impressive attraction when they come for hours one group after the next.

Dieser sogenannte Staat der Grundsteinlegung hat historisch grosse Bedeutung in USA als einer der 13 Gründungsstaaten. Hier begann die Geschichte der USA 1776 mit der Unterschrift der Unabhängigkeitserklärung und später des Grundgesetzes in Philadelphia. Von 1790 bis 1800 war Philadelphia auch die Hauptstadt der USA. Die Hauptstadt von Pennsylvania ist Harrisburg, eine Kleinstadt mit 50k Einwohnern. Etwa 30% der Bevölkerung hat deutschen Ursprung, in Teilen des Landes wird noch Pennsylvania Deitsch gesprochen.

This so called Keystone State is an important historic place for the USA and one of the first 13 origin states. Here starts the History of the USA in 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence an later the Constitution in Philadelphia. From 1790 till 1800 Philadelphia was the capitol of the USA. The capital of Pennsylvania is Harrisburg, a small town with 50k population. About 30% of the population has German ancestors, and in parts of the country is still the Pennsylvania Deitsch spoken, a funny dialect of German origin.

Die 1,5 Mio. Stadt ist die grösste Stadt Pennsylvanias. Die historischen Gebäude sind noch alle gut erhalten und prägen Teile der Innenstadt. Neben den historischen Gebäuden stehen die in den Grosstädten der USA so bekannten Hochhäuser. Am Fluss befindet ist ein Monument Penns Landing, dem Gründer von Pennsylvania. Der Flughafen ist einer der Hubs für die US Airways. Das 2. grösste Kaufhaus der USA befindet sich etwa 30km östlich in King of Prussia. Neben 6 Kaufhäusern sind da 400 weitere Läden angesiedelt. Viel Zeit für Frau mitbringen.

The 1.5 Mio City is the biggest town in Pennsylvania. The historic buildings are all in very good conditions and form a relevant part in the city center. Beside the historic buildings are the in the USA usual towers of later buildings. On the river is the monument of Penn's landing, the founder of Pennsylvania. The airport is one of the hubs for the US Airways. The 2nd biggest shopping mall of the USA is about 30km east in King Of Prussia. Beside 6 department stores are another 400 shops located. Bring a lot of time to satisfy your wife.

Texas hat sich erst Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts aus der spanisch mexikanischen Herrschaft gelöst und ist den USA beigetreten. Der Staat ist insbesondere bekannt durch die Ölindustrie und das Raumfahrtzentrum. Weltweit berühmt wurde die Ölindustrie durch die Intrigen der Fernsehserie Dallas. Das viele Geld der Ölindustrie führt dazu, das auch eine starke politische Macht ausgeübt wird und einige US Präsidenten aus Texas kommen. Sonst fällt mir natürlich die alte Filmtradition mit vielen Rindern ein, also muss man Steak essen in Texas.

Texas has dissolved from the Spanish Mexican Government as recently as middle of the 19 century and entered the USA confederation. The state is specially known for is oil industry and the space center. World wide famous gets the Texan oil industry by the intrigues of the television series Dallas. The plenty of money from the oil industry leads also to a strong political power and some of the US President are coming from Texas. Additional I remember of course the old movie tradition with many cows, therefore to eat a steak is a must in Texas.

Die heutige Weltraum Stadt ist die viert grösste Stadt der USA und hat 2,1 Mio. Einwohner. Wo früher die Cowboys die Rinder trieben werden heute die Raketen zum Mond gesteuert. Houston ist eine moderne Hochhausstadt ohne einen besonderen Flair. Das Zentrum haben wir nachts ziemlich leer vorgefunden. In der Galleria kann man ganz gut einkaufen, das Steak im Mortons war Spitze, auch im Preis. Wir konnten auch einen Harley Event ähnlich wie auf Key West beobachten, scheint eine Tradition zu sein. Houston ist Hub für Continental.

The today's Space City is 4th biggest city in the USA and has a population of 2.1 Mio. Where long time ago the cowboys forced the cattle today are the rockets to the moon controlled. Houston is today a modern skyline city without any remarkable flair. The city center we have found in the night totally empty. In the Galleria Mall the shopping is rather good, the steak in Morton's was excellent, also in the price. We have also seen a Harley event similar like we could see in Key West, this seems to be a tradition. Houston is a hub for Continental airline.

Venezuela ist eines der südamerikanischen Länder die in ziemlich angespannter Situation leben. Eine Reise sollte nur mit den entsprechenden Sicherheitsmassnahmen stattfinden. Wir waren in Caracas, in dem sich die Spannung zwischen reich und arm besonders bemerkbar macht. Anschließend ein paar Tage in Canaima bei den welthöchsten Wasserfällen das unbedingt empfehlenswert ist. Danach sind wir mit einigen emigrierten Deutschen in die Pampa gefahren und hatten etwa acht Autostunden in das nächste Dorf.

Venezuela is one of the south American countries which lives in a fairly keen situation. A trip should only happened after rechecking the actual information with the relevant safety features. We was in Caracas, where the tension between rich and poor is particularly noticeable. After this we spend a couple of days in Canaima at the highest waterfalls of the world, which is absolute worth to be visited. Then we traveled to the country side with some expatriate Germans and had more then eight hours by car to the next village.

Reich und Arm, und das direkt nebeneinander. Das zeichnet Caracas und wohl auch viele andere Städte in Südamerika aus. Dieses extreme Ungleichgewicht zieht soziale Spannungen und eine hohe Kriminalitätsrate nach sich. Das faszinierende an Caracas sind die klimatischen Bedingungen. In der Stadt selber herrschen eigentlich gemäßigte Temperaturen, da sie auf etwa 1.000m liegt. Tropische Bedingungen hat man nach 40min am karibischen Meer mit 30 grad und möchte man Schifahren sind die Anden mit über 5.000m nicht weit.

The fascinating on Caracas are the climatically conditions. In the city themselves prevent moderate temperatures, because the city is build about 1.000m over the sea level. To get tropical conditions all the year just drive 40 min to the Caribbean see with 30dgrs, for skiing just move to the Ands with more then 5.000m high mountains.

Eine der bekanntesten Sehenswürdigkeiten in Venezuela sind die höchsten Wasserfälle der Welt in Canaima, die etwa 1.000m hoch sind. Von den Tafelbergen im Hochplateau im Südosten Venezuelas stürzt das Wasser senkrecht herunter, unten kommt nur noch eine Dunstwolke an. Diese wiederum sorgt für einen prächtigen Urwald in der näheren Umgebung. Nach Canaima kommt man mit dem Flugzeug von Caracas, die Piloten steuern so das bereits der Anflug ein voller Genuss ist. Mit einer Cessna kann man das noch steigern.

One of the most famous points to see in Venezuela is the highest waterfall on our planet in Canaima which are about 1.000m high. From the table mountains on the plateau in south east Venezuela falls the water vertical down, on the ground arrives just a cloud of water. This leads then to a fantastic jungle in the clothier surroundings. From Caracas flies a regular plane to Canaima, and the pilots lead the plane so close to the table mountain that you fear about your live. With a small Cessna plane you can increase this feeling.

Die längste Zeit in Venezuela haben wir in der Pampa verbracht. Geschlafen wurde im Freien in den Hängematten und zum Essen gab es was wir tagsüber an Fischen gefangen hatten. Am Lagerfeuer gab es reichlich Rum und im Fluss konnten wir nachts die Caymane beobachten. So eine Silvesterfeier am Lagerfeuer in der Badehose macht wirklich Spaß. Nicht zu vergessen die Hehenis, winzige Stechfliegen die einem vom Sonnenaufgang bis Sonnenuntergang zusetzten. Dagegen half nur sich dick mit Öl einzuschmieren, egal welches.

The most time in Venezuela we spend in the pampas. We was sleeping under the stars in the hammock and to eat we had fish, the catch of the day. On the campfire was opulent rum and in the river we could watch in the night for the caimans. A Silvestre night party on a campfire in the trunks is really funny. Not to forget to mention the hehenis, teeny-weeny mosquitoes which attacks hardly the whole day from sunrise to the sundowner. Against this plague helps only to lubricate all what they can reach with oil, never mind which kind.
