Der
alte Kontinent wie er auch genannt wird. Die vielen Kulturen die sich nicht
einig werden haben zumindest angefangen, die Grenzen abzubauen und führten
eine gemeinsame Währung ein. Durch die Osterweiterung wird die einfach zu
bereisende Fläche noch mal grösser.
The Old
Continent how it is sometimes called. The many cultures which can not find an
common basis have at least started to reduce the borders and introduced a
common currency. With the east opening of the EU the easy to travel area
extended again.
Die deutschsprachige Alpenrepublik bietet sehr viele
verschiedene Attraktionen an. Es ist schon beeindruckend die steil
aufragenden Bergmassive am Westrand der Alpen zu sehen. Wien und der Heuriger
bieten Unterhaltung im Osten. Einige Seen insbesondere im Salzburgerland sind
ganz bekannt für Ihre Sichtweiten und auch Tiefen. Ausserdem ist Flusstauchen
und auch Höhlentauchen möglich. Da diese Gegend nur etwa 3 Autostunden
entfernt ist, muss ich da mal wieder hin. Aber ohne Trocki geh ich da auch
nicht mehr rein.
The German
speaking republic in the Alps offer a variation of attractions for tourists.
It is impressive to see the rampant mountains on the west side of the alps.
The capitol Vienna und the vine festival Heuriger provide entertainment in
the east. Same lakes specially in the Salzburg area are famous for their
visibility and depths. Additional is river drift diving and cave diving
possible. Due this area is only 3 car hours away from Bavaria, I have to
visit it again. But without my dry suit I will not enter the water again.
Mit grosser Erwartungshaltung wegen grossen Sichtweiten wurde
ich gleich wieder auf den Teppich geholt. Sicht war um die 5m und bitter
kalt. Daraufhin habe ich umdisponiert und einen Trocki Kurs belegt, um
wenigstens die Kälte erträglich zu gestalten. Das Tauchen war bescheiden, der
erste TG auf eine Übungsplattform bei wenig Sicht, der zweite TG war etwas
besser. Dafür ist die Gegend fantastisch, der Kontrast Berge und Seen sind
natürlich ein ideales Motiv. I werde es nochmal versuchen, da muss es bessere
Bedingungen geben.
With a great
expectation about fantastic visibility I was fast brought down to the bottom.
The visibility was about 5m and it was very cold. Due of that I changed my
program and have performed a dry suit course to reduce at minimum the
coldness. The diving was moderate, the first dive was on a training platform
with reduced visibility, the second was a bit better. But the landscape there
is fantastic, the contrast of the high mountains and the blue lakes is a
perfect motive. I have to try again, there must be better conditions.
Alps
no dives
Vor vielen Jahren als ich noch nicht tauchte war ich öfter
Schifahren, und hier bieten sich natürlich die Alpen als unsere Hausberge an.
Insbesondere von München aus waren die Pisten in wenigen Stunden erreichbar.
Später von Nürnberg aus wurde es schon mühsamer, und als ich Tauchen begann
hat es mich nicht mehr so gereizt. Aber es ist natürlich faszinierend an
einem sonnigen Tag die Pisten runterzuwedeln und dazwischen mal einen
Jagertee einzunehmen. Die Alpen sind auch zumBergseetauchen interessant.
Many years
ago when I did not dive I was sometimes skiing, and for this of course the
Alps are the best selection as our house hills. Specially from Munich the ski
piste was reachable within a couple of hours. Later from Nürnberg it was more
difficult and when I started with diving I lost the interest on skiing. But
it is of course fantastic to waggle down the hills on a sunny day and take
in-between a jager tea with a lot of Austrian rum. The Alps are also
interesting for mountain diving, many lakes are found in the high areas.
Ein bisschen Frankreich und ein bisschen Holland und schon hat
man das Königreich Belgien. Die zwei Kulturen, holländisch im Norden,
französisch im Süden und beide in Brüssel sind allgegenwärtig. Dieses treibt
seltsame Blüten wenn es um diverse Verteilung von Funktionen und
Verantwortung geht. Ein bisschen deutsche Kultur ist im Grenzgebiet wohl auch
vorhanden. Viele offizielle Organe der EU sind in Brüssel vetreten. Tauchen
müsste eigentlich in der Nordsee an der Grenze zu Holland möglich sein.
A portion
France and a portion Netherland and the result is the Kingdom Belgium. The
two cultures are omnipresent, Netherlands in north, French in south and in
Brussels both. This leads to strange decisions when it comes to divers
divisions of functions and responsibility. A bit German culture is also
existing in the border region. Many official elements of the European Union
like Parliament, Council and Commission are represented in Brussels. Diving
should be possible in the border region to Netherland.

In
der Haupstadt Brüssel sieht vieles etwas heruntergekommen aus. Ich habe den
Eindruck das die Stadt von Ihrer Historie lebt. Die weltberühmte
Sehenswürdigkeit und Wahrzeichen der ist das Atomium. Die Zentrale der
Europäischen Union, der Königspalast und die Altstadt sind auch sehenswert.
Weitere Highlights die man sich nicht entgehen lassen sollte sind die vielen
Biersorten die so ganz anders schmecken und die vielen Pralinen in jedem
Laden. Mein Eindruck vom Nachtleben war bescheiden, aber ich habe nicht viel
gesehen.
In the
capitol Brussels looks many buildings degenerated. I have the impression,
that the City lives from her history. The world famous place of interest and
landmark is the Atomium. The center of the European union, the kings palace
and the old town are really worth to be visited. Further highlights not to be
missed are the many different beer brands, which taste totally different to
the regular and the many chocolate brands in every shop. My impression about
the nightlife was poor, but I did not visit a lot in this city.
Eines der exJugo Länder durch die ich nur durchgefahren bin.
Sarajevo habe ich kurz besucht, hier wurde schon der erste Weltkrieg
ausgelöst, als ein Fanatiker den österreichischen Thronfolger erschossen hat.
Was sich dann in den 90ern abgespielt hat, muss uns an der Zivilisation von
Europa zweifeln lassen. Menschen die seit Jahrzehnten zusammen wohnten
brachten sich gegenseitig um. Aber es scheint das die Serben, Kroaten und
Moslems von skrupellosen Antreibern aufeinander gehetzt wurden, das bei jedem
der Verstand aussetzte.
One of the
ex Yugoslavia countries which I only passed through. I have visited Sarajevo
shortly, where already the first world war was triggered after a fanatic
shoot down the Austrian crown prince. What happened then in the 90th opens
questions about the civilization of the human race in Europe. Neighbors which
live decades together killed each other without scruple. But it looks for me,
that the Serbs, Croatian and Muslims was heated up by scruples boosters
andraced to fight each other, up to
at everybody set out their brain.
Da wir 1992 nur ein Transitvisum hatten war unser Aufenthalt auf
30 Stunden limitiert. Am Schwarzen Meer sind wir von Rumänien bis in die
Türkei durchgefahren. Die Leute waren nett und westlichen Tourismus gab es
praktisch nicht, alle östlichen Länder waren natürlich vertreten. Das hat
sich inzwischen stark geändert. Am meisten hat uns Nessebyr beeindruckt, ein
Dorf auf einer kleinen Insel die mit dem Festland verbunden ist. Die vielen
Strände locken zu einem Wiederholungsbesuch, der mangels Tauchmöglichkeiten
nicht so schnell erfolgt.
Due
we had only a transit visa in 1992, our stay in this country was limited to
30 hours. All the way on the Black Sea we drove from Romania up to Turkey.
The people was friendly and western tourism was not existing at this time,
only the eastern countries was represented. That has in the last years
strongly changed and today it is easy to book a package trip. At the most
impressed we was from Nessebyr, a small village on a peninsula. The many nice
beaches are calling for a repeated visit, but due lack of dive spots I don't
believe on this.
Die komplette Küste des ehemaligen Jugoslawien ist heute
kroatisch. Für mich ist dieses das beste Tauchgebiet in Europa, dazu noch
relativ einfach in acht Autostunden zu erreichen. Leider ist das Angebot für
Nichttaucher nicht so toll, und so habe ich einige Motivationsprobleme um
dahinzufahren. Natürlich bieten sich die verlängerten Wochenenden an, aber
auf die Idee kommen wohl auch viele andere und so ist der Verkehr nervend.
Besonders hervorhebenswert ist die Küstenstrasse, die mit ihren vielen Kurven
schön zu fahren ist.
The complete
coastline of the former Yugoslavia is today Croatian. For me this is the best
diving area on the European continent, and within eight hours by car still
comfortable to reach. Unfortunately the possibilities for non diver are not
very good and so I have some motivation problems to travel there. Of course
the longer weekends are the best choice, but exactly at this time all other
gets the same idea and so traffic is terrible. I like to highlight the coast
line road, which is fantastic to drive with a lot of curves.

Ich
war in der südlichsten Stadt in Croatien zweimal vor dem Krieg, für mich eine
der schönsten Städte am Mittelmeer. Schon die lange Anfahrt auf der
Küstenstrasse ist eine Wucht. Die kurvenreiche Strasse bietet super
Aussichten und sollte bereits als Urlaubserlebnis angesehen werden. Dubrovnik
ist eine alte Stadt mit einem Stadtkern, in dem die Einheimischen abends noch
flanieren gehen und die vielen kleine Kneipen mit Pizza und kroatischer Küche
locken. Durch den Krieg soll vieles zerstört worden sein, das wurde bestimmt
wieder aufgebaut.
In
the most southern city of Croatia I was already two times before the war, for
me this is one of the nicest cities on the Mediterranean sea. Already the
long drive on the cost line is fantastic. The road with many curves provides
superb outlooks and should be seen as a great travel experience. Dubrovnik is
an old town with a center, where in the night the locals walk around and many
small restaurants attract with pizza and other Croatian food. In the war most
of them was destroyed, but I assume that it is already build up again.

Die berühmten Wasserfälle aus den Karl May Filmen der 60er
Jahre, insbesondere der Schatz im Silbersee. Ich habe diese auf meinem
Griechenlandtrip besucht, da waren Sie schon von Touris sehr belagert. Sind
jedoch immer den Abstecher wert, wenn man gerade mal an der Küstenstrasse
Richtung Dubrovnik unterwegs sein sollte. Es werden in diesem Bereich
inzwischen heftige Parkgebühren kassiert. Es sind nur noch zwei Wasserbecken
erreichbar, die anderen wurden aus Naturschutzgründen gesperrt, was wohl auch
richtig ist.
Here are the
famous water falls from the Karl May movies in the 60th years, especially the
treasure in the silver sea. I have passed them on my Greece trip, and at this
time they was already heavy occupied by the tourists. But they are worth for
this short side trip from the main coastal road when traveling in direction
to Dubrovnik. After the locals have seen the tourist interest, they started
to charge heavy parking fees in this area. There are only two water basins
available, the others are locked due natural conservation issues, what should
be correct.
Diesen Trip habe ich mit meinem neuen Buddy aus Berlin
ausgemacht. Bei der Zimmerreservierung gab es leichte Probleme, da
gleichzeitig an diesem Wochenende irgendeine lokale Veranstaltung für volle
Hotels sorgte. Und nach der Ankunft um Mitternacht war alles bis auf eine
Würstelbudde zu. Für eine Verlängerungsnacht habe wir dann relativ problemlos
ein Privatzimmer erhalten, das auch ganz ordentlich war. Beim Tauchen gab es
nicht so gute Sicht, dafür klasse Wracks wie Baron Gautsch and ganz angenehme
Wassertemperaturen.
This trip I
have made with my new buddy from Berlin. Already with the room reservation we
get some problems because there was on the same weekend a local festival
which occupied all beds. After arrival at midnight everything was closed
except a chippy, so hard to get a beer. For an extension night we had no
problems to get a private room, which was not a bad option. At the diving the
visibility was not very good, but excellent wracks like the Austrian liner
Baron Gautsch, which sunk in first world war and nice water temperature.
Auf der Insel Krk habe ich meine bisher besten TG in EU
durchgeführt. Klasse Sicht von über 30m, Wracks und ganz nette Landschaften.
Leider auch wenig Fisch, dafür kann man Minen finden, die bestimmt noch
scharf sind. Wie wir selbst erfahren haben ist den Sturm Bora zu achten, der
sehr plötzlich aufziehen kann. Zimmer haben wir voraus gebucht, war soweit
kein Problem. Wie teilweise in Kroatien zu beobachten ist, entsprechen die
Preise nicht ganz den gebotenen Leistungen und die Niedrigpreise gibt es schon
lange nicht mehr.
From the
island Krk I have done my best dive in continental Europe. Excellent
visibility with over 30m, wracks and nice landscape. Unfortunately also less
fish, but you can find mines, which could be still active. As we experienced
everybody has to take care for the storm which is called Bora, who can appear
very fast. Rooms we have booked in advantage, was not a problem. As could be
partly seen the prices are not adequate to the offered performance and the
low prices from the old Yugoslavian time are gone forever.
In
äussersten Westen dieses mitteleuropäischen Landes bin ich geboren und
verbrachte da meine ersten 11 Lebensjahre. Nach dem Fall der ost-west Mauern
denke ich das die Tschechen es als erstes schaffen, auf ein westliches
Wohlstandsniveau zu steigen. Mit den Preisen in Prag haben Sie auf jeden Fall
schon gleichgezogen, auf dem Land ist es aber noch erfreulich günstig. Ich
habe noch den Vorteil die Sprache halbwegs zu sprechen. Zum Tauchen gibt es
einige Seen, die ich bei nächster Gelegenheit einmal ansteuern möchte.
In the most
western point of this country I am born and spend my first 11 years there.
After the fall of the east-west walls I think that the Czech people will
reach as the first to climb onto a western live style niveau. In Prague they
have already reached the western level with the prices on the tourist places,
in the country side it is still enjoyable low priced. I have the advantage to
understand the language half way. For diving there are some lakes available,
which I like to visit on the next possible occasion.

Die
goldene Stadt Prag ist für mich die schönste Altstadt auf dieser Welt. Die
malerischen Gässchen, die Burg über der Moldau und der Marktplatz sind
herrlich anzusehen. Dieses haben auch schon viele Touris gemerkt und so
sollte man an Ostern diese Stadt meiden. Auf jeden Fall sollte man die Burg
und Kathedralebesichtigen und dann zu
Fuss runter in die Altsstadt gehen. Über die weltbekannte Karlsbrücke kommt
man dann in die touristische Altstadt und zum Wenzelsplatz. Besonders
erwähnenswert sind die böhmischen Speisen.
The golden
City Prague has in my opinion the nicest old town on this earth. The
picturesque lanes, the castle over the river Vltava and the market square are
excellent to visit. This have already encountered many tourist and therefore
you should avoid this city on eastern. In each case you should visit the
castle and the cathedral and then walk down to the old town. Over the world
famous Karlsbridge you arrive then in the tourist old town with the small
streets and continue to Venzel place. You should also try the bohemian food
which is excellent.

In der Nähe dieses schönen alten Kurortes wurde ich geboren.
Aber Falkenau würde wahrscheinlich keiner auf der Landkarte finden. Der
benachbarte Kurort ist auch viel fotogener. Das Zentrum schmiegt sich in ein
schmales Tal, auf beiden Seiten steigen die Berge sehr steil hoch. Die
berühmteste Einrichtung in Karlsbad ist der Warmwasserquell, von dem
kostenlos das angeblich heilende Wasser getrunken werden kann. Ausserdem
sollte man natürlich die Karlsbader Oblaten und Becherovka kaufen, die es an
jeder Ecke zu kaufen gibt.
Close to
this old health resort with mineral springs I am born. But Sokolov would
probably nobody find on the map. The neighboring health resort is also much
more picturesque and worth for a visit. The center is located in a narrow
valley, on both sites the hills climb up precipitous. The most famous
constitution in Karlovy Vary is the warm water spring, where you can drink
for free the so called healing water. Aside from this you should of course
buy the Karlovy Vary places and the spirit Becherovka, which is on each
corner available.
Der nördliche Nachbar von Deutschland hat einen Festlandsanteil
und mehrere Inseln. Am meisten haben mich bisher die riesigen Brücken
beeindruckt, die sich von Insel zu Insel spannen. Das ganze Land ist ziemlich
teuer, teuerer als Deutschland. Mal schauen ob ich es noch zum Tauchen
schaffe, für einen Urlaub hat mich das Land noch nicht überzeugt. Ausserdem
ist die touristische Infrastrukture nicht so wie man es sich als
Individualreisender wünschen würde. Letzlich ist es ziemlich nördlich und
nicht so warm.
The northern
neighbor of Germany has a continental area and some islands. At the most I
was impressed by the giant bridges which span from island to island. The
whole country is rather expensive, more expensive then Germany. I have to see
if I find the time and possibility to go for diving, to spend aholiday there the country has not yet
impressed me. Additional the tourist infrastructure is not as I would
appreciate as in individual traveler. Finally it is rather north what means
the temperatures are not the warmest.

Die Hauptstadt des Wikingerlandes an der Grenze zu Schweden
machte eigentlich einen ganz einladenden Eindruck auf mich. Es gibt einige
Sehenswürdigkeiten, am Bekanntesten sicher die Meerjungfrau. Im Sommer ist
die Innenstadt gut gefüllt und viele Strassencaffees laden zum verweilen ein,
im Winter etwas trostlos. In dem Vorort Hoje Taastrup ist absolut tote Hose.
Abends werden die Gehsteige hochgeklappt und dann kann man nur arbeiten oder
schlafen gehen. Am Abend ist es auch schon schwierig etwas zum Essen zu
bekommen.
The
capitol of the wiking country on the border to Sweden looks quite interesting
and makes a inviting impression to me. There are some places of interest
there, the most famous of course the mermaid. In the summer time the downtown
is busy and many street coffee shops invite to stay there, in the winter time
it is a bit desolate. In the suburb Hoje Taastrup absolute nothing happens.
In the evening the sidewalks are folded up and the only way is to work or go
to bed. In the evening it is also difficult to get later a dinner.

Eine kleine Stadt an der ersten Brücke zu den Inseln, ist
einfach mit dem Auto in zwei Stunden von Hamburg aus zu erreichen. In der
Umgebung machen viele Urlaub, aber meistens als Selbstversorger was mir gar
nicht liegt. Es gibt nur wenige Restaurants und Bars und die machen alle sehr
früh zu. Etwas Sehenswertes habe ich trotz vieler Reisen noch nicht entdecken
können. Zum Tauchen liegt etwa 20km südlich der bei Deutschen berühmte
Tauchplatz Gamel Albo. Ich hoffe das ich da nochmal zum Tauchen komme.
A small city
on the first highway bridge to the islands, which can be easy reached by car
in two hours from Hamburg. In the surroundings many people are spending their
holidays, but mostly in self catering apartments, what is not so much my
style. There are only a couple of restaurants and pubs and all of them close
very early. Something interesting to see I have regardless my many trips
there not yet found. A famous dive spot is Gamel Albo, some 20km south. I
hope that I will find a possibility to dive there.
Unsere Nachbarn konnten mich noch nicht so recht für eine Reise
begeistern. Ich bin bereits mehrmals durchgefahren auf dem Weg nach Spanien.
Bei einigen Diensreisen habe ich Paris und Lyon kennengelernt und zwei mal
war ich auch privat in Paris. Die kulinarischen Ausflüge ins Grenzgebiet bei
Karlsruhe zählen nicht so recht. Ich habe den Eindruck, das die Franzosen
stark von Ihrer Vergangenheit leben. Tauchen gibt es an der Mittelmeerküste,
insbesondere Wracktauchen in grosse Tiefen. Aber schon die Tauchgenehmigung
ist ein Problem.
Our
neighbors could not yet inspire me for a stay. I have bypassed already
several times on the way to Spain. On some business trips I became acquainted
with Paris and Lyon and was also private two times in Paris. The culinary
trips in the border area close to Karlsruhe do not really count. I have the
impression, that many of the Frenchmen live strongly in their past. Diving is
possible at the Mediterranean coast line, in particular wreck diving into
large depths.But divingpermission is already a problem.
Paris ist natürlich toll und hat die bestausgebaute Metro die
ich kenne. Angeblich soll man von jedem Ort in der Stadt binnen 500m die U
Bahn erreichen können. Bei dem schrecklichen Verkehr ist das aber auch
notwendig. Der Eifelturm und die beiden Arch sind weltberühmte
Sehenswürdigkeiten die man einfach einmal im Leben sehen muss. Viele weitere
Sehenswürdigkeiten machen den Aufenthalt in Paris kurzweilig. Weniger
begeisternd ist die Pariser Gastronomie, nicht wegen dem Geschmack, sondern
wegen der Preise.
Paris is
naturally fantastic and has the best build metro which I know. Allegedly one
is to be able to reach a metro station from each place in the city within
500m. With his terrible traffic this is absolute necessary. The Eifel tower
and the two Arch are world-famous buildings of interest which everybody has
to see at minimum once in the life time. Many further objects of interest
make the stay in Paris short timed. Less enthusiastically is Paris catering
trade, not because of the taste, but because of the prices.

Das Schloss von Versailles zeigt die französische Geschichte pur
und nach dem Besuch begann ich zu verstehen warum die Franzosen so
eingebildet sind. Die französischen Glanzzeiten spiegeln sich in dem riesigen
Bauwerk und das Museum zeigt die Pracht vergangener Zeiten. Ich bin auf einem
Tagesausflug von Paris mit dem Bus hingefahren und habe eine Führung
mitgemacht. Diese ist unbedingt zu empfehlen, jedoch denke ich das ein Tag
auch völlig ausreicht. Und Paris bietet auch einiges, wenn auch näher an der
Realität.
The castle
of Versailles shows French history purely and after this visit began I to
understand why the Frenchmen are so conceited. The French gloss times are
reflected in the enormous building and the museum show the splendor of past
times. I was on a daytrip with the bus from Paris there and have made a
guided tour through the castle. This is absolute recommended, however I think
one day is also absolute sufficient. And Paris offers also some more
interesting places, although more near at the reality.
Die Insel Korsika ist als der Geburtsort von Napoleon bekannt.
Nachdem ein langjähriger Tauchpartner dort regelmässig seinen Urlaub
verbringt haben wir die Gelegenheit auch genutzt. Unser Ausgangspunkt war ein
Campingplatz südlich von Calvi, einer kleinen Stadt an der Westküste. Die
Tauchgänge haben wir mit einem Boot in Sichtweite des Strandes ausgeführt. So
felsig und steil wie Korsika ist ging es unter Wasser weiter, und so
erreichten wir bis zu 50m. Einige gute Restaurants in der Umgebung mit französischer
Küche verwöhnten auch uns.
The island
Corse is well known as the birth place of Napoleon Bonaparte. Due a long time
buddy spend every year his holidays there we used this possibility too to
explore this Mediterranean island. Our starting point was a camping site
south of Calvi, a small old city on the west coast. The dives we have done
with a boat in vicinity of the beach. So rocky andsteep the island looks over the sea so it
continues also under water, and so we reached easily up to 50m. Some good
restaurants with French food nearby pampered also our stomach.
Als Tauchgebiete sind die Nordsee, Ostsee, Bodensee und die
vielen Seen und Teiche anzusehen. Ich habe nach einigen Überlegungen die
Republik in 4 Zonen entsprechend den Himmelrichtungen eingeteilt, da ich
nicht jeden See als eigenes Tauchgebiet deklarieren möchte, anderseits aber
die ganze Republik ein zu grosses Tauchgebiet darstellt. Ich denke damit
entspreche ich der Auslandsaufteilung. Weiterhin sind einige
hervorhebenswerte Städte unter Citytour aufgezählt, sowie natürlich meine
Wohnorte.
Diving is
possible in the North Sea, Baltic Sea, Lake of Constance and in the many
lakes and ponds all over the country. After reconsidering my scheme I have
divided Germany in 4 zones according the compass orientation, due I don't
like declare every lake as a own dive spot, on the other hand the country is
also a big diving area. I think this regards as well the abroad selection.
Further there are some notable cities mentioned under City tour and of course
my home cities are all also named.
Die Hauptstadt von Deutschland, wieder. Habe ich bisher nur auf
einem Osterntrip Anfang der 90er und bei einer netter Geburtstagsparty von
Frank gesehen. In wenigen Jahren hat sich die Stadt gewaltig gewandelt.
Beeindruckend sind das Brandenburger Tor, der Alex im Ostteil und das KaDeWe
Einkaufscenter. Es sieht aber so aus, wie wenn die Wessis und Ossis die
Vereinigung noch nicht ganz verarbeitet haben. Die Stadt wächst laufend und
wird in Kürze wohl zum absoluten Topspot in Deutschland wenn nicht sogar
Europa.

of Germany, again. I have visited it twice, on a eastern trip beginning of
the 90th and later at a great birthday party from Frank. In a couple of years
the city changed heavily. Impressing are the Brandenburg Tor, tower Alex in
the east part of the city and the KaDeWe shopping center in the western part.
It looks still like the western and eastern guys did not yet find together
after the re-unification. The city still grows and will be in a short time an
absolute hot spot in Germany when not in the whole Europe.
Die
Stadt hatte den Ruf weg die Kanzlei des Ruhrgebietes zu sein. Aber das dürfte
Vergangenheit sein. Heute hat das grösste Dorf Deutschlands einige Highlights
zu bieten, wie die längste Theke der Welt und den Karneval. Für Taucher von
besonderen Interesse ist die Boot, eine der grössten internationalen
Wassersportmessen der Welt. Eine der Hallen ist für das Tauchen reserviert
und da kann man geballt Informationen über Ausrüstung, Ausbildung, Reiseziele
und was sonst noch wissenswert ist erhalten.
This town
was the so called secretary town of the neighboring Ruhr area. But this is
today history. Today has the biggest village in Germany some highlights like
the longest bar counter worldwide and also the carnival. For divers it is
interesting because here is every year the Boot, one of the world biggest
international exhibitions for water sport. One of the large halls is only
occupied for the diving and there everybody can get all information about
equipment, dive education, dive locations and everything else what is
interesting to know.
Die grosse Stadt an der Elbemündung ist der grösste Hafen
Deutschlands. Und ein grosser Hafen benötigt natürlich ein
Vergnügungsviertel, und das ist die Hamburger Reeperbahn. Hier gehen die
Lichter nie aus und die unzähligen Bars reihen sich nur so aneinander.
Nachdem ausser den Containern die Reisen nicht mehr per Schiff angetreten
werden, hat sich Hamburg erfolgreich auf die Herstellung des Airbus
umgestellt. Das Taucherinteresse richtet sich an das etwa 50km nördlich
gelegene Hemmoor, siehe Germany Nord.
The large
city on the mouths of the river Elbe is the biggest harbor of Germany. And a
big harbor needs a place of entertainment for the sailors, and this is the
Reeperbahn. Here the lights never goes off and the night bars are countless
one after the next. Due except the containers the travels today are no more
performed per ship cruises, Hamburg has successfully migrated to the
production of the airbus plane. The divers interest is more oriented on the
50km north located Hemmoor, see Germany North.
Köln
ist die deutsche Hauptstadt was den Karneval betrifft, das erkennen sogar die
benachbarten Erzfeinde aus Düsseldorf an. Leider hatte ich noch nicht das
Vergnügen, am Karneval einen Termin in Köln zu haben. Und ich glaube das ist
auch unmöglich zu dieser Zeit einen Termin zu bekommen, da dieses als die 5te
Jahreszeit geheiligt ist und sogar wichtiger als Silvester gehandhabt wird.
Ein weiteres kleines Problem da sind die Biergläser, die gerade mal einen
hohlen Zahn füllen, zum Glück sind die Kellner flott beim nachfüllen.
Cologne
is the capitol of Germany in respect to the carnival. That is also accepted
by the arch rival from the neighbor city Düsseldorf. Unfortunately I had not
yet the pleasure to have a business meeting there on carnival. And I believe
it is impossible to get a date at this time, due this is respected as the
holy fifth season and more important as the new year ceremony. Another
problem for me are the beer glasses, which fill just the cavernous tooth.
Fortunately the waiters are very fast to bring the next glass.
Die Stadt in der ich aufgewachsen bin und meine Schule und
Studium an der Fachhochschule absolviert habe. Sehenswert ist das Schloss,
Innestadt und natürlich mein Kaffee Crocodil. Aus der Beamtenstadt wurde
inzwischen eine ganz nette Stadt, in die es mich nach meinem Arbeitsleben
wieder zurückzieht. Meine Verwandtschaft und Freundeskreis rekrutieren sich,
sofern sie nicht in Deutschland oder auf der ganzen Welt verteilt sind,
überwiegend von hier. Auch einige Tauchplätze in Form von netten Seen sind in
der Umgebung angesiedelt.
The city
where I grow up and went to school, also where I finished my high school
degree and university. It is worth to see the castle, down town and of course
my favorite coffee shop Crocodile. The slow official city changed since this
time to a nice city, where I intend to stay after my retirement. Most of my
friends and relatives are living there, when they are not distributed all
over Germany or all over the world. There are also some nice dive spots in
the lakes around this city, what means cold diving in bad vis.
Die
Stadt in der ich meine ersten eigenen Schritte getan habe. Unmittelbar nach
dem Studium wollte ich in die grosse weite Welt und bin in München gelandet.
Ist eine sehr reizvolle Stadt mit einem riesigen Freizeitangebot, das ich nur
wenig nutzte. Die Lage im Süden Deutschlands bietet exzellente
Ausflugsmöglichkeiten in die Alpen und in 6 Stunden war ich am Mittelmeer.
Habe ich in Mitte der 80er auch reichlich genutzt und bin öfter für ein
längeres Weekend nach Italien. Nur das Nachtleben ist eine Schande für eine
derartige Stadt.
The city
where I mad first own steps without family.Directly after the university I like to go into the big wide world and
landed in Munich. It is a very nice city with a great recreational
possibilities, which I did not use so much. The location in the south of
Germany offers excellent excursion possibilities in the Alps and in 6 hours I
could reach the Mediterranean. This I have used often in the 80th and
traveled for an extended weekend to Italy. Only the night live in Munich is
not very excellent for such a city.
Hier wohne ich nun die längste Zeit meines Lebens. Einen
richtigen Bezug zu dieser Stadt habe ich aber nicht gefunden, obwohl die
Altstadt sehr interessant ist. An Weekends geht es häufig auf Reisen und
Karlsruhe ist auch nicht weit weg. Immerhin sind die Arbeitsbedingungen hier
sehr gut und der Verkehr hält sich im Vergleich zu München sehr in Grenzen.
Das Nachtleben ist wie in ganz Bayern etwas bescheiden, dafür sind die
Biergärten zusammen mit denen aus München unschlagbar. Tauchen is mehr als
bescheiden hier.
In this city
I live now the most time of my live. But a real relation to this town I have
not found, also the old town is very interesting. On the weekends we travel a
lot and Karlsruhe is also not far away. Anyhow the working possibilities are
very good here and the traffic is excellent compared to the overcrowded
Munich. The nightlife is as everywhere in Bavaria poor, but the beer gardens
are in conjunction with the Munich beer gardens excellent. Diving in the
surroundings of Nuremberg is more then poor.
Eine sehr schöne altertümliche Stadt, übersichtlich und viele
klasse Kneipen haben mir die vielen Tage und Nächte während der Bauzeit des
BMW Werkes mitte der 80er in angenehmer Erinnerung hinterlassen. Ein
Spaziergang durch die Altstadt, Besichtigung des grossen Domes und ein paar
Würstchen an der steinernen Brücke essen sind schöne Erlebnisse. Etwas
ausserhalb sollte man sich die Walhalla nicht entgehen lassen, die auf dem
Bild nebenan dargestellt wird und von der Autobahn gesehen werden kann.
A very
beautiful ancient city clearly arranged and many excellent pubs haveleft the many days and nights for me during
the construction period of the BMW factory in the middle of the 80's in
pleasant memory. A walk through the old town, inspection of the large
cathedral and a to eat a few small sausages at the stone bridge are beautiful
experiences. Somewhat outside you should not miss the Walhalla building,
which is shown in the picture beside and can be seen already from the
highway.
Der Ammersee ist einer der Seen die von München gut an einem
Wochenendausflug besucht werden können. Das auf einem nahem Berg stehende
Kloster Andechs hat durch sein Starkbier einen hohen Bekanntheitsgrad
erlangt. Bei einem Besuch sollte man vorab aber die Fahrer festlegen. In der
Nähe werden auch die Kaltenberger Ritterturniere ausgeführt, die jedes Jahr
spektakuläre Szenen für die interessierten Zuschauer liefern. Ausserdem ist
da ein ganzes Dorf in mittelalterlicher Ausstattung aufgebaut, die viele interessante
Motive liefern.
Ammersee is one of the lakes which can be
easily visited on a weekendtrip from Munich. On a nearby mountain is located
the monastery Andechs, which is very famous for his very strong dark beer. On
a visit it should be selected the driver for the way back home in advance.
Close to are also the Kaltenberger knights tournaments. which every year
deliver spektakular scenes for the interested observer. There is also build
up a complete village in middle ages style which deliver also many
interesting motives for pictures.
Eines der berühmtesten Wahrzeichen Europas ist das von König
Ludwig II von Bayern 1869-1884 aufgebaute Schloss Neuschwanstein. Am Rande
der Alpen mit ausgezeichneter Sicht in die Ostallgäuer Seenplatte ist es auch
heute noch ein bemerkenswertes Bauwerk in einer grandiosen Umgebung. Für die
Besichtigung ist ein Tag mit blauem Himmel zu empfehlen, dann werden die
Fotos von alleine exzellent. Seit 1886 ist das Schloss für Publikum geöffnet,
heute besichtigen etwa 1,3 Mio. Touristen im Jahr dieses geniale Bauwerk.
One of the
most famous landmarks of Europe is the Neuschwanstein Castle build up by King
Ludwig II from Bavaria in 1869 - 1884. On the upraise of the Alps with
fantastic view in the eastern Allgaeu lake area is it also today a very
remarkable structure in a grandiose surrounding area. For the visit it is
recommended to look for a day with a blue sky, then the picture shots will be
excellent. Since 1866 is the castle open for the public and today there are
about 1.3 million tourists per year visiting this genial structure.
Der höchste Berg in Deutschland, genau an der Grenze zu
Österreich. Ich habe diesen Berg einmal bezwungen, natürlich mit
Unterstützung der Seilbahn. Wie man am nebenstehenden Bild sieht war es aber
Winter und daher sei dieses verziehen. Ich denke im Sommer werde ich diesen
Berg auch nicht besteigen, da dieses in meinem Alter nicht mehr ratsam ist.
Die Aussicht ist genial und man kann die Gipfel der umliegenden Berge von
oben sehen. Windfeste Kleidung sei jedem Besteiger empfohlen, da es da oben
ganz heftig zieht.
The highest
mountain in Germany, exactly at the border to Austria. I defeated this
mountain once, of course with support of the cable railway. As could be seen
on the left site picture it was it was in a very could winter time and
therefore I hope for excuse. I think also in the summer I will not climb this
mountain, since this is no longer advisable in my age. The view from top is
excellent and you can see the summits of the surrounding mountains from
top.It is recommended to suit proper
with protection, due on top is a very strong wind blow.
An die Ostsee wollte ich schon lange. Da meine Berliner Buddies
die Jan Hewelius auf dem Programm hatten, stand auch die Insel Rügen als Ziel
fest. Die Berliner Badewanne ist nicht ganz billig, jedoch ganz interessant.
Das Wrack der polnischen Fähre sank etwa 2-3 Bootsstunden östlich und liegt
in der idealen Tauchtiefe von 10-25m. Nachdem wir auch gutes Wetter hatten
war dieser Ausflug ganz gut. Leider gibt es auf Rügen kein organisiertes
Tauchen und so blieb es mangels anderer Buddies bei diesen zwei Tauchgängen.
To the
Baltic Sea I wanted already for a long time. Due my Berlin buddies had the
wrack Jan Hewelius on the program, was the island Ruegen the destination. The
Berlin bath tub is not cheap, however it is interesting. The wreck of the
polish ferry sunk about 2-3 boat hours east and lies in the ideal depth of
10-25m. After we had also good weather was this trip excellent.Unfortunately there are no organized diving
trips on Rügen and therefore the area remains due lack of other buddies with
only two dives.
Die grosse Überraschung waren für mich die Seen in
Ostdeutschland. Eine super Infrastruktur und klares Wasser, jedoch auch
heftig kalt. Bei meinem kältesten TG mit 2grd in der Prelle hat mein
Warmwasserregler nicht mehr gemocht und hat mir damit mit 12min zu meinem
kürzesten TG verholfen. Aber auch die Erfahrung mit so einen abblasenden
Automaten auf 37m sollte man mal gemacht haben. Inzwischen bin ich drei mal
da gewesen, Steina, Prelle und Sparman waren dabei. Der Straussee bei Berlin
hat mir auch gut gefallen.
The large
surprise was for me the lakes in east Germany. Excellent infrastructure and a
clear water, however also violently coldl. On my coldest dive with 2grd in
Lake Prelle my warm water regulator did not like to serve me anymore and I
realized with about 12min my shortest dive at all time. But it is a good
experience to get on 37m a blowing off regulator, everybody should make it at
least once. In the meantime I was another two times there and visited the
lakes Steina, Prelle and Sparman. The lake Straussee close to Berlin was also
very nice.
Nun hat es auch mal zum berühmten See im Norden gereicht. Die
Infrastruktur ist sehr angenehm und die Hütten am See bieten auch noch Sauna
nach belieben. Nachdem wir bereits Donnerstags tauchen waren war die Sicht
auch ganz ordentlich. Am Wochenende hat es sich aufgrund vieler Taucher
merklich verschlechtert. Die Temperaturen sind wie man es von deutschen Seen
her kennt, bis 10m angenehme 13 grad, darunter ging es schnell auf 3-7 grad
abwärts. Aber im Trocki ganz erträglich. Wird sicher mal wiederholt.
Now I found
the time to dive the famous lake in the north. The infrastructure is
excellent and the huts at the lake offers also sauna as much as once like.
Due we already dived on Thursday the visibility was excellent. On the weekend
it worsened due to many divers reached the location. The temperatures are
like one know it from German lakes, up to 10m pleasant 13 degrees, abelow it
went fast to 5-7 degrees downwards.But in the dry suit it was acceptable. For sure I will visit this
great spot once more.
Die
süddeutschen Seen waren meine erste Gelegenheit zum Kaltwassertauchen. Mit
einem Nassanzug laden Sichtweiten unter 1 m und Temperaturen um 4 grad nicht
gerade zum Fundiving ein. Dazu keine Fische oder sonst was, eine Coladose ist
schon eine Logbuchsensation. Mit meinem Trocki hat sich die Situation
natürlich etwas geändert. Eistauchen in den Alpen wird auch noch mal
probiert. Bisher habe ich in Nürnberg und überwiegend im Karlsruher Umland
wie Epplesee, Durlach und Linkenheim, sowie einmal im Bodensee getaucht.
The south
German lakes were my first opportunity for cold water diving. With a wet
suit, visibility under 1 m and temperatures of about 4 dgrs C I would not
call this a pleasure or fundiving.In
addition no fish or anything else, an empty can of Coke is already an
important log entree. With my dry suit later the situation improved
naturally. Ice-diving has also be tried somewhere. So far I dived mostly in
Nuernberg and in the sourrounding of Karlsruhe like Epplesse, Durlach and
Linkenheim, as well as once in the Lake Constance.
Nachdem ich schon viel über das Indoor Tauchen gelesen hatte,
bot sich das Ausprobieren des neuen Trocki's hierzu an. Noch dazu da ich
keine Gelegenheit hatte, diesen vor meinen Bodensee Tauchgängen praktisch
ausprobieren. Also ab ins Auto, nach Aufkirchen bei München und rein ins
Wasser. In acht miteinander verbundenen Becken mit einer max. Wassertiefe von
4,3m kann man herumblubbern. Ich war die ganze Zeit allein im Wasser und die
Temperatur war mit 22 grad C recht angenehm. Wiederholung war für Atemregler.
After I read
a lot about indoor diving, I used my new dry suit for the first time check.
Also because I had no possibility to check the new equipment before some deep
dives in the Lake Constance. Just jumped into the car, drive to Aufkirchen
near Munich and jumped into the water.In eight connected basins with a max. water depth of 4.3m everybody
can swim around. I was the most time alone in the water and the temperature
was quite pleasant with 22 degrees C. The second time I was there to check my
new regulator before a NZ trip.
Dieses Land mit seiner überwältigenden Kultur ist immer eine
Reise Wert. Ich habe mir schon zweimal die Reise mit dem Auto angetan, einmal
allein und einmal auf unserer SOE Tour 1992. Die historische Plätze wie
Delphi, Olympia und Meteora muss man einfach gesehen haben. Weiterhin bin ich
in Rhodos und Kreta jeweils mit dem Flieger gewesen. Überall sind Monumente
der griechischen Mythologie und Kultur zu sehen. Zum Tauchen soll es auf den
Inseln auch sehr interessante Plätze geben, aber das kommt noch.
This country
with its overwhelming culture is all-time worth for a trip. I traveled
already twice the very long tour by the car, once alone and second on our SEE
trip in 1992. The historical locations like Delphi, Olympia and Meteora
everybody should visit once a lifetime. Furthermore I was in Rodos and Crete
with the airplane on a package tour. Everywhere the monuments of the old
Greek mythology and culture can be seen. For diving on most of the islands
are very interesting spots with clear water, which I have not yet visited.
Athen

Athen ist sicher eine der historisch interessantesten Städte auf
dieser Erde. Noch extremer als in Rom reihen sich hier ein Historisches
Monument an das andere. Die Akropolis ist das Wahrzeichen und überragt die
Stadt. Die anderen stehen auch in jedem Reiseführer besser beschrieben. Ich
hatte mit dem Stadtverkehr leichte Probleme und war am liebsten mit dem Taxi
unterwegs. Ist sowieso zu empfehlen, da wenig Parkplätze zur Verfügung stehen
und die örtliche Polizei schnell mit der Parkkralle zur Hand ist.
Athens is
realy one of the historically most interesting cities on this earth. Still
more extremely than in Roma line up here one historical monument on the next.
The Akropolis is the landmark and towers above the city. The other
interesting places are better described in each travel guide. I had with city
traffic slight problems and was mostly with the taxi on the road. This way is
recommended anyway, since few parking lots are available and the local police
is fast arriving with the park claw to fix the bad parked car.
Creta

Die grösste der griechischen Inseln war bereits in der Antike
bekannt. Der Jungfrauen verschlingende Minotaurus hatte hier im Labyrinth
seinen Sitz, bis er von Zeus Sohn Herakles erschlagen wurde. Die historischen
Orte wurden perfekt so hergerichtet, das die Historiker das als unecht
verächten. Weiter ist auch die 18km lange Samara Schlucht interessant, die
man in einen Tagesmarsch durchwandern kann. Ich habe das mit einem
verstauchten Knöchel als Handicap getan. Einen Sandstarnd gibt es nur am
Ostende der Insel.
The largest
of the Greek islands was already in the antique well-known. The virgins
devouring Minotaurus had here in the labyrinth its home, until he was killed
from Heracles, the son of Zeus. The historical places are prepared perfectly
in such a way, that some historians outlawed them as false. Additionally the
18km long Samara ravine is interesting, which one can walk through into one
day's march. I did it with a verse-dipped leg bone as handicap. A sandy beach
is only on the easternmost point of the island.
Delphi

Einer der bekanntesten Plätze im Altertum. Das Orakel hat sich
einen kühleren Ort in den Bergen etwa 200km östlich von Athen ausgesucht.
Jeder König der was auf sich hielt ist vor einer wichtigen Entscheidung nach
Delphi gefahren um dort das Orakel zu befragen. So wurde dort die Politik
gemacht, da natürlich alle verfeindeten Völker zu dem gleichem Orakel gingen
und diese somit das Gleichgewicht in der Antike herstellten. Heute ist dieser
Ort ein Touri Zentrum, an dem heftig ausgenommen wird.
One of the
most well-known places in the Greek antique. The oracle selected itself a
cooler place in the mountains about 200km east of the hot Athens. Each
important king in the antique went before an important decision to Delphi to
consult with the oracle. Thus the politics was made here, since naturally all
disliked peoples went to same oracle and the oracle had the possibility to
balance between the enemies. Today this place is a tourist center per
excellence, at which every visitor has to spent a lot of money.
Kalamata

Die südlichste Stadt auf dem Festlandeuropa. Hat zwischen meinen
beiden Besuchen eine ganz heftige Wandlung vollzogen. Bei meinem ersten
Besuch 1985 war es noch ein Urlaubsort für Einheimische. Das Essen musste
noch durch Zeigen in der Küche bestellt werden. Dann wurde die ganze Stadt
durch ein Erdbeben zerstört, wie ich in den Nachrichten gehört habe. Bei
meinem zweiten Besuch 1992 war es ein österreichisches Urlaubsdorf. An jeder
Ecke wurde wienerisch gesprochen und von der Idylle war nichts mehr übrig.
This is the
southernmost city on mainland Europe. Between my two attendance a complete
transformation was carried out.With
my first attendance 1985 it was still another resort for native ones. The
meal had to be ordered by finger pointing in the kitchen. Then the whole city
was destroyed by an earthquake some times later, as I had read in the news.
With my second visit in 1992 it was a Austrian vacation village. At each
corner it was spoken Austrian dialect and from the idyllic place I found
years ago was nothing remaining.
Meteora

Bei Meteora südlich von Saloniki sind auf Felsenspitzen Klöster
gebaut, die mit herkömmlichen Verkehrsmitteln nicht erreicht werden können.
Alles zur Versorgung nötige wird mit Seilen hochgezogen. Eines der Klöster
kann über eine Brücke betreten werden, es wird der übliche teure Einlass
verlangt. Die Aussicht von der Bergen ist atemberaubend, auf der einen Seite
die hohen Berge mit dem Sitz des griechischen Gottvaters Zeus - Olymp, im
Hintergrund auf der anderen Seiten ziehen sich Ebenen und Hügel bis zum
dunkel blauen Meer.
Close to
Meteora south of Saloniki are monasteries built on rock points, which cannot
be achieved on conventional roads or ways. Everything necessary supply is
pulled up with ropes. One of the monasteries can be entered over a bridge,
the usual high entrance fee is required. There is a breath-robbing view from
the mountains, on one side are the high mountains with the seat of the Greek
godfather Zeus - the mountain Olymp, in the background on the other sides
draws itself levels and hills up to the dark blue sea shore.

Der Ort der antiken Olympischen Spiele. Heute existiert da noch
die Ruinen des alten Stadion und einige umgebende Gebäude. Typisch das
vormittags die Busse andonnern, Touris mischen die Gegend auf und am späten
Nachmittag herrscht wieder Leere. Ich habe mir auf der Rückfahrt das
zweifelhafte Vergnügen angetan, von Olympia nach München in einem Stück
durchzufahren, etwa 2.400 km in 32 Stunden. In Salzburg habe ich weisse Mäuse
gesehen und wenn in München einer vorbeigelaufen wäre hätte ich dem das Auto
geschenkt.
The location
of the antique Olympic games. Today exists there still the ruins from the old
stadium and some surrounding buildings. Typically that in the morning the
buses arrives, tourists mix all the area on and in the late afternoon
everything is empty again. On the return trip I did myself the doubtful
pleasure to drive nonstop from Olympia to Munich which is a distance of about
2,400 km within 32 hours. In Salzburg I have seen white mice and if in Munich
somebody run by I had given him the car for free.
Rodos

Einst stand hier eines der 7 Weltwunder, der Koloss von Rhodos.
Zu meinem 30sten Geburtstag bin ich morgens ins Reisebüro, habe den nächsten
erreichbaren Flug gebucht und bin auf Rhodos gelandet. Da habe ich dann noch
meine zweitteuerste Flasche Schampus geleert und dann hatte ich die Jugend
verabschiedet. Danach ging es mir wieder besser. Bei einer Rundfahrt mit
einem Mietwagen habe ich die Insel einmal umrundet. Die Touristen halten sich
meistens im Norden der Insel auf, wo sich die Hotels nur so aneinanderreihen.
In the
antique stood here one of the 7 world miracles, the Coloss of Rodos. On my
30th birthday I went in the morning into a travel agency, choose the next
available flight and landed in the afternoon in Rodos. There I emptied in the
evening my second most expensive bottle of champagne and said bye bye to my
youth. Afterwards I was feeling again better. During a round trip with a
rented car I orbited the island once. Most of the tourists remain in the
north of the island, where the hotels line up one by one, in the south it is
much more idyllic.
Saloniki

Auch Thessaloniki genannt, eine der nördlichsten Städte in
Griechenland. Die Stadt macht einen sehr zivilisierten und modernen Eindruck.
Es gibt grosse Strassen im Zentrum und einige kleine Gassen im Randbezirk.
Wir haben da auf unserer SOE Tour eine ehemalige Geschäftskollegin von Eva
besucht. Vermutlich kommt man in Saloniki mit deutsch ganz gut zurecht, da
viele Gastarbeiter aus der Umgebung kommen. Zum Urlaub machen würde ich diese
Ecke aber nicht empfehlen, da gibt es schönere Ecken in diesem Lande.

also called Thessaloniki, one of the northernmost cities in Greece. The city
showes a very civilized and modern outfit. There are large roads in the
center and some small lanes in the peripheral area. We visited a former
business colleague of Eva on our SEE route. Probably one gets along in
Saloniki with German very well, since many immigrant workers in Germany come
from the environment. For any vacation I would however not recommend this
area, there are much more beautiful places in this country.
In Ungarn kenne ich nur Budapest, die zweigeteilte Stadt an der
Donau. Nach der Öffnung des Ostblocks zu neuer Blüte erwacht müsste eine
Wiederholungsreise interessant sein.Touristisch interessant ist wohl auch der
Balaton, aber ob ich da jemals hinkomme glaube ich wirklich nicht. Ich
schätze zum Tauchen wird da auch nicht viel geboten. Was mich da reizt, ist
irgendwo bei Budapest ist ein Thermalbad mit Wassertemperaturen um die 40
grad und da bieten die Eigentümer Höhlentauchen an. Das muss ich mal mitmachen.
In
Hungary I know only Budapest, the divided city on the Donau river. After
opening of the Eastern Bloc a new boom town in Europe, it should be an
interesting place to visit again and compare with the previuos.Another
touristic interesting place could be the lake Balaton, but I don't believe
that I will travel there. I gues the diving is also not possible. What I am
interested about is somewhere close to Budapest are hot springs with water
temperatures of about 40 dgrs and the owner offer cave diving. that is a must
for me.

Auf einer Städtetrip zu Ostern 1989 konnten wir die damals noch
unverdorbene Stadt mit den ganzen kommunistischen Gehabe kennen lernen.
Damals wurde Geld noch schwarz getauscht und die Flasche Krimsekt kostete
noch zwei Mark. Bei einem Essen in einer Nobelkneipe haben wir zu viert
weniger gezahlt als bei uns alleine und eine Taxifahrt war billiger als eine
U-Bahn Fahrt in Nürnberg. Die Stadt ist ein Zusammenschluss von Buda und
Pest, die jeweils eine Seiten der Donau besiedelt haben.
On a easter
city tour in 1989 we could visit the at this time absolute unspoiled city
with all the comunistic rules. At this time the money was exchanged on the

dollar. For a opulent dinner in a classy restaurant we have paid for four the
same price as one piza at home and a taxi ride through the half city was
cheaper then a metro ticket at home. This capitol is a merge of the both

Irland ist eine Insel östlich von England und seit 1921 ein
unabhängiger Staat. Wir haben spontan ein Wochenende in der Hauptstadt Dublin
gebucht und hatten eine nette Zeit dort. Unverständlich das sich auf dieser
Insel immer wieder Menschen die Köpfe einschlagen nur weil sie nicht den
gleichen Glauben haben. Wir haben die Iren sehr freundlich erlebt. Aus dem
ehemaligen Armenhaus Europas hat sich inzwischen ein reiches Land entwickelt.
Beim Rückflug hätten wir aufgrund eines Streikes beinahe den Flieger nicht
gekriegt.
Ireland is a
island east of England and since 1921 a independent country. We have
spontaneous decided to spend a weekend in the capitol Dublin and had a very
nice time there. Incomprehensible that on this island still again some humans
dash out their brain just because they don't have the same believe. We found
the Irish very friendly on our trip. From the former poor house of Europe is
developed now one of the richest countries. On the flight back we nearby
missed our plane because of strike of the employees.

Im Zentrum kann man ganz gut einkaufen gehen. Gleich in der Nähe
befinden sich einige interessante alte Schlösser und Kirchen. Sehenswert sind
auch die alten Whisky Destillerien wie Jameson und die grosse Brauerei von
Guinness mit Ihrer Ausstellung. Bereits in 2005 haben die Iren das
Nichtrauchen in allen Restaurants und Pubs eingeführt. Glücklich wer ein Pub
mit einem beheiztem Innenhof wie das Auld Dubliner findet. In den Pubs wird
Livemusik gespielt und natürlich Guiness getrunken und am Wochenende geht es
da hoch her.
In the
center is a nice shopping mile with a lot of shops. Straight nearby are some
interesting old castles and churches. Well worth seeing are also the old
whisky distillery like Jameson and the large brewery from Guinness with their
exhibition area. Already in 2005 the Irish have introduced the non smoking
policy in all restaurants and pubs. Lucky who find a pub with a heated
courtyard like the Auld Dubliner. In the pubs is live music common and of
course a lot Guinness will be consumed. On the weekends is high live there.

Pizza und doofe Politiker, außerdem ganz gute Segelgebiete. In den 80ern war
ich öfters auf ein verlängertes Wochenende da, bei 6 Stunden Fahrzeit von
München auch akzeptabel. Und während eines Segelkurses konnte ich auf Elba
ein paar TG mitnehmen. Die Ostseite dürfte durch die Sandstrände wenig zum
Tauchen geeignet sein, dafür ist die felsige Westküste besser geeignet. Als
Tauchplätze bieten sich sicher die Inseln wie Elba, Sardinien, Giglio etc.
an, bisher hatte ich jedoch noch keine Motivation für einen Tauchurlaub.

and stupid politicians, additionally very good sailing areas. In the 80th I
was often on an extended weekend there, due only 6 hours travel time from
Munich an acceptable trip. And during a sailing course I could perform on
Elba a few dives. The eastern side might be not suitable for diving due the
sandy beaches, but the rocky west coast is a good place. As diving locations
the islands offer the best, such like Elba, Sardinia and Giglio, so far I had
not yet the motivation for a diving vacation in this country.

Die Ewige Stadt. Wenn man durch die Stadt läuft könnte man
wirklich meinen das diese Stadt schon seit einer Ewigkeit besteht. Mitten in
der Stadt sind die Ausgrabungsstätten natürlich mit einem heftigem
Touristenrummel verbunden. Kolosseum, die Spanische Treppe, Pantheon, Forum
Romanum, Fontana di Trevi; von der Antike bis zur Neuzeit ist alles
vertreten. Außer in der Antike sind wohl die meisten Glanzpunkte durch die
Genies Michelangelo, Bernini und Borromini im letzten Jahrtausends vollbracht
worden.

city already exists since an eternity. In the middle in the city the
excavation places are naturally connected with a violent tourist stream.

Eine der berühmtesten Städte Europas und die Stadt bei der sogar
München gekupfert hat. Reichlich mit Gebäuden aus der Renaissance gesegnet
und ein Mittelpunkt der Kultur vor einigen Jahrhunderten. Heute ist es immer
noch sehenswert, wirkt aber auf mich wie ein Museum. Im Centro sind viele
Touris unterwegs und für den Capuccino sollte man am besten ein Stück in das
Hinterland fahren. Besonders beeindruckend ist ein Besuch in der grossen
Kuppel, von der man nach langem Treppensteigen die Stadt recht gut überblicken
kann.
One of the
most famous cities of Europe and the city where even Munich copied a lot.
There are a lot of buildings from the Renaissance and it was a center of the
culture some centuries ago. Today it is still worth being visited, however I
feel there like in a museum. The center is occupied by many tourists and for
a a capuccino I recommend everybody to go somewhere outside due the prices.
Really impressing is a visit in the large dome, from where after a very long
stair case climb everebody can overlook the whole city.

Wie Florenz war auch hier der Zenit der Stadt vor einigen
hundert Jahren. Heute immer noch weltberühmt durch seinen schiefen Turm. Bei
meinem ersten Besuch 1984 konnte ich den noch besteigen, inzwischen ist er
für die Öffentlichkeit gesperrt. Und aussen herum drängen sich tausende von
Japanern, die Millionen von Bildern schiessen. Selbst das Parken ist
inzwischen schwierig geworden, so wie früher einfach bis zur Piazza zu fahren
geht nicht mehr. Trotzdem, der schiefe Turm ist eine absolute Sehenswürdigkeit
von Europa.

the zenith of the city was also some hundred years ago. Today it is still
famous all over the world by the inclined tower. With my first attendance
1984 I could still visit the top, in the meantime it was closed for the
public. Outside in the surroundings are thousands of Japanese, who shoot
millions of pictures. Even parking became very difficult in the meantime, in
opposite to former times where you could drive up to the Piazza.Nevertheless, the inclined tower is today
an object of interest for all tourists in Europe.

In den 80'ziger Jahren vielfaches Ziel von mir für ein
verlängertes Wochenende. Donnerstag abends ins Auto, in der Nacht angekommen,
im Auto übernachtet und ab zum Strand. Tagsüber eine Pension gesucht, abends
eine Pizza und Nachts in die Disko. Die Italiener haben sich darauf
eingestellt und an jeder Ecke kann man Schweinshaxen und Löwenbräu bekommen
wenn man Heimweh hat. Und scheinbar haben viele Heimweh. Inzwischen ist es
mir mit dem Auto zu weit und ausserdem zu anstrengend, verglichen mit
Flugreisen.
In the
80'ths years this was a prefered weekend destination for me. Thursday in the
evening in the car, at midnight arrived, stay in the car overnight and then
to the beach. During the day searched for a free motel, in the evening a
Pizza and at night into the discotheque. The locals adjusted to the germans
needsand so at each corner you can
get piglegs and german beer for all who gets homesickness. And apparently
many germany have homesickness. In the meantime it is too far for me and too
exerting, compared with an flight.

Das weltberühmte Venedig war mit seinem nahe liegendem Strand
von Lido di Jesolo auch ein häufiges Ziel von mir in den 80'ern. Venedig
bietet auch reichlich Kultur bis zum Abwinken. Eine Fahrt mit dem Wassertaxi
ist der Gondelfahrt vorzuziehen, um seinen Geldbeutel zu schonen, der schon
mit dem Capuccino strapaziert wird. Unbedingt sehenswert sind die
Rialtobrücke sowie der San Marco Piazza. Ein Spaziergang durch die vielen
kleinen Gassen und über die vielen kleinen Brücken zeigt auch die anderen
Seiten von Venezia.
The world
famous Venice with his channels was with its nearby beach of Lido di Jesolo
also a frequent destination for me into the 80'th. Venice offers a great
culture up for everybody. A travel with the water taxi should be preferred
against car travel - which is reglemeted, in order to preserve its purse,
which is already strained with the Capuccino prices. The Rialto Bridge as
well as the San Marco Piazza are aa must for every visitor. A walk through
the many small roads and over the many small bridges shows also the other
sides of Venice.

Der Gardasee ragt im Norden in die Alpen und im Süden liegt er
bereits in der italienischen Poebene. Dadurch ist im Süden bereits der Anfang
des Touristenrummels aus Nordeuropa, der sich dann in der Adria weiter
fortsetzt. Ich habe öfters auf meinen Italienreisen einfach einen Abstecher
von der Autobahn runter gemacht und bis ein Stück am See entlang gefahren.
Sehenswert sind im Norden die steilen Berge die aus dem Wasser kommend direkt
in die Höhe gehen und im Süden die Stadt Sirmione die auf einer Halbinsel
liegt.
The Garda
lake extend in the north into the Alps and in the south he is already located
in the Italian Po lowlands. Therefore in the south already starts the tourism
hype from northern Europe which continues later in the Adrian region. I have
sometimes on my Italian trips just made a sidewalk from the highway down and
drove a part on the shore lakealong.
Worth to visit are in the north the steep mountains which appear from the
water and go straight in the high and in the south the village Sirmione which
is located on a half island in the lake.
Die Fahrt nach Elba zog sich hin, danach mussten wir in einer km
langen Schlange in der Zufahrt zu Fähre warten. Die Überfahrt selbst ging
flott. Die Veranlassung war die praktische Prüfung für den SKS Segelschein,
die nur am Meer nach 300sm Praxis abgenommen wird. Die Ortschaft die wir
wählten hatte keinen Strand und ohne Auto war man da verloren. Dabei haben
wir später bei unseren Rundfahrten einige ganz nette Orte gefunden. Das
Tauchen geht rundum und ist relativ problemlos. Wasser und Sicht war mässig,
Flora und Fauna ebenso.
The travel
to Elba gets longer and longer, at last we we spend a long time in a queue
waiting for the ferry boat to the island. The passage themselfs went quickly.
The reason for the trip was the practical exam for a saling licence, which is
accepted only after 300sm practice. The locality we had chosed had no beach
and without a car you are lost there. We later found some better places
during our round trips. Diving is offered all around the island and is easy
going. Water and visibility were moderate, Flora and Fauna likewise.
Das
Fürstentum Liechtenstein liegt zwischen Österreich und der Schweiz am
östlichen Ende des Bodensee. Dieser Zwergstaat ist bekannt für sein
Bankgeheimnis und zieht damit natürlich alle die was verstecken wollen an.
Dieses Miniland hat viel französische Kultur und auch ein paar
Seen. Bisher hat es ausser Durchreise nur zu einer Citytour in die Hauptstadt
gereicht. Diese ist ein kleines älteres Städtchen mit internationalem Flair.
Was mir noch einfällt sind viele Brücken, ein paar mittelalterliche Schlösser
mit markanten spitzigen Türmchen und die schrecklichen Klötze aus den 60gern.
Die Stadt ist auf Hügeln aufgebaut und so geht es immer rauf und runter. Die
malerischen Gässchen laden zu einem Bummel ein und das Bier schmeckt wie bei
den Belgiern.
This smal
country has a lot of french culture and also some lakes. Up to now I passed
by and spend one easter city trip in the capitol. This is an smaller old town
with international flair. This is natural due the many european union
activities there. What I can remember are the many bridges, some middle age
castles with markant spiky towers and a lot of ugly building from the 60th.
The city is build on hills and so the way goes all times up and down. The
picturesque alley invite to stroll around and the beer taste like in Belgium.
Auch in diesem ex Jugoslawischen Land bin ich auf meiner Reise
nach Griechenland nur durchgedüst. In Skopje habe ich einen Halt gemacht, und
die stehen gebliebene Rathausuhr von irgendeinem Erdbeben aus dem frühen 20.
Jahrhundert ist mir noch in Erinnerung. Weiterhin kann ich mich noch an die
ersten Moscheen erinnern, die mir hier auf meinem Weg begegnet sind. Eine
Nacht im Auto musste ich aufgrund meiner Stopovers verbringen. Im Süden leben
hier viele Griechen und dieses führt zu Spannungen mit Griechenland.

this ex Jugoslavian country I have only passed on my travel to Greece. In
Skopje I made a stopover and the only what I can remember is the not
functional clock on the town hall which reminds on a earthquake from the
earlier 20 century.Further I can remember the first mosques in Europe, which
I have passed on my way. Due of the lost time from my stopovers I had to
spend one night in the car. In the south part of the country lives o a lot of
greek people and this leads to tention with Greece.
Das berühmte Fürstentum Monaco hat ausser seiner adligen
Regierung das jährliche Formel 1 Rennen mitten durch die Stadt. Zusätzlich
einen Hafen mit einigen überwältigende Yachten und das berühmte Kasino für
die Spieler. Die Mittelmeerküste bietet angenehmes Klima und das zieht wie
auch im benachbarten St. Tropez viele Promis und Steuersparer an. Ich konnte
jedoch dem französischen Flair nicht viel abgewinnen. Das Tauchen wird wohl
nicht beeindruckend sein in dieser überfüllten Bereich.
The famous
princedom Monaco has except of his aristocratic government its annual formula
1 race, which leads straight through the city center. Additionally a harbour
with some stunning yachts and the famous casine for gambler. The
mediterranean costline has a comfortable clima and this attract as well as in
the neighbouring St. Tropez a lot of well known people and tax savers. I was
not very impressed from this very typical french flair. As well the diving
should not be very impressive in this overcrowded area.
Das Flachland ist direkter Nachbar von Deutschland jedoch mit 6
Stunden Fahrzeit von Bayern ziemlich entfernt. Getaucht wird überwiegend in
den der Nordsee vorgelagerten Niederungen. Teilweise sind diese vom Meer
abgeschottet und haben einen sehr niedrigen Salzgehalt, in dem sich eine
eigene Flora und Fauna entwickelt hat. Bei meinen Tauchgängen war es kalt und
die Sicht war schlecht, jedoch es soll auch besser gehen. Vielleicht habe ich
mal wieder Gelegenheit um die Bewertung aufzubessern.
This
flatland is a straight neighbour of Germany, but with about 6 hours driving
time far away from Bavaria. Diving is possible in the Northsea, respective in
the flat sidearms which goes into the country. They are partly covered from
the sea and have a low salt concentration, where has a special kind of flora
and fauna developed. On my dives it was cold and visibility was bad, but i
heart that the conditiona are sometimes better. Maybe on a other occasion I
will get better conditions to improve the rating of this area.

Die
Stadt wird von Kanälen oder Grachten wie die Einheimischen in ihrem Platt
sagen durchzogen wie Venedig. Hier sind auch noch viele Wohnboote zu sehen,
da die Flachländer den Drang haben mobil zu hausen. Das kann man zur
Ferienzeit anhand der gelben Autokennzeichen auf den Wohnmobilen auf allen
europäischen Fernstrassen beobachten. Und zu hause können sie aufgrund
fehlender Vorhänge auch am öffentlichen Verkehr teilhaben. Nach Feierabend
geht der Holländer in die Haschischbar und lässt es sich gut gehen.
Through the

in the italian city Venedig. Here are many living boats to see, due the flat
country inhabitants have the ideal to live mobil. That everybody can
experience in the holiday season on all european highways, when the cars with
yellow plates on their caravans block the roads. And at home they can join
also the public traffic due not existing curtains. And after the hollandese
has finished his job he goes to the haschisch bar and feel fine.
Zeeland scheint das bekannteste Tauchgebiet von Holland zu sein.
Das ganze Gebiet ist eine Urlaubsgegend und hat entsprechende Infrastruktur.
Massenweise sind Hotels und Campingplätze sowie Restaurants und Pubs
vorhanden. Die Suche nach einem freien Zimmer kann sich schwierig gestalten.
Nachdem wir ein Zimmer hatten, war die Suche nach einem Diveshop dran. Das
Duikzentrum De Kabbelaar ist ein ganz netter Laden und Füllstation. Das
Prozedere sind aber anders als man es von tropischen Ressorts her kennt.
It looks
like Zeeland is the most known diving area from Holland. The whole area lives
from the tourism and has the neccesary infrastructure. Hundreds of hotels and
camping places as well as restaurants and pubs are available. The search for
a available room can be hard in the peak season. After we had our room
settled we start to search for a dive shop. The Duikcentrum De Kabbelaar is a
nice dive shop and filling station. But the procedure it different to the
rules which are known from the tropical resorts.
Auch Norwegen habe ich im bisher nur an einem Weekend
kennengelernt. Im Rahmen einer Dänemark Geschäftsreise habe ich einen
Abstecher mit der Fähre an die Südküste Norwegens gemacht. Mein Eindruck das
in Scandinavien weitgehend die gleichen Regeln herrschen wurde hierbei noch
verstärkt. Ziemlich überrascht wurde ich durch die ganz netten Tauchspots.
Die Temperatur war wärmer als im Mittelmeer, die Sicht ganz gut und die
großartige Farbenvielfalt unter Wasser können sich sehen lassen.

I became acquainted in so far only on a weekend trip. In the context of a
business trip I made an excursion with the ferry boat from Denmark to the
south coast of Norway. My impression that in Scandinavia everywhere the same
rules are valid was on this trip confirmed. I get quite surprised about the
nice dive spots. The temperature was warmer then in the much more south
located Mediterranean sea, the visibility was quite good and the fantastic
colors under water are highly recommended to visit.
Die Anreise ist schon mühsam. Zuerst durch die ganze Republik,
dann durch Dänemark bis an den Nordzipfel und zuletzt noch 4 Stunden mit der
Fähre. Es gibt viele Wracks, 3 konnte ich sehen: MS Seattle, Tom B und Do24T.
Dank dem Golfstrom hat das Watter eine angenehme Temperatur, die UW Welt
würde ich mit dem Mittelmeer vergleichen. Der ganze Tourismus ist auf
Selbstversorger eingestellt, Restaurants gibt es kaum. Dafür wird eine sehr
interessante Landschaft geboten mit Brücken und Fjorden.
The journey
is already tiring. At first through whole Germany, then through Denmark up to
the northern most point and at last another 4 hours with the ferry boat.
There are many wrecks, three of them I could visit:MS Seattle, Tom B and Do24T.Thanks to the Mexican gulf stream the sea
water has a pleasant temperature, the UW world I would compare with the
Mediterranean. The whole tourism is adjusted to self-supporting travelers,
restaurants are very seldom.But you
can see very interesting landscape with bridges and fjords.
Nachdem Eva in Oberschlesien geboren ist besuchen wir häufig
noch Ihre Bekannten. Dabei sind wir aber ausser in der Umgebung von Ratibor
und Krakau noch nicht viel herumgekommen. Ich habe bisher das Vergnügen
Warschau dienstlich zu sehen, also Flughafen, Hotel und die Firma. Weiterhin
haben wir auf einem Tagestrip Stettin gesehen und die Berge der Hohen Tatra
bei Zakopane und Wisla. Nicht zu vergessen, in Ratibor habe ich kirchlich
geheiratet. Schon seit langem schwebt mir Wracktauchen in Danzig vor.
Due Eva is
born in south Poland we still visit frequently her relatives. Up to now we
have visited only the surroundings of Raciborz and Krakow. I had additionally
the pleasure to visit Warsaw on business trips, meaning I saw the airport,
hotel and the customer. Further we have visited on a day trip from Berlin
Stettin and we have seen the mountains of the high Tatra in Zakopane and
Wisla.Not to forget, in Raciborz I
married in the church. Since a quite long time I am looking for a trip to
Gdansk for wreck diving.

Die Hauptstadt Polens habe ich inzwischen zweimal auf
Geschäftsreise besucht. Man merkt aber schon die Aufbruchstimmung die
vorherrscht. Überall wird viel gebaut, private Restaurants lösen die Esshalen
ab und auf den Strassen fahren mehr westliche Autos als einheimische Fiats.
Aber unverkennbar ist noch der alte sozialistische Baustill überall präsent,
mit Plattenbauten aus den 60'gern. Leider ist die Anreise mangels Autobahnen
recht mühsam und langatmig, so das eine Citytour so nicht in Frage kommt.
I visited
the capital of Poland in the meantime twice on business trips. Everybody
notices everywhere the new build up motivation prevails. Everywhere are
construction sites, private restaurants replace the state owned food halls
and on the roads drives more western cars than the old native Fiats. But
unmistakably still the old socialist building style from the 60th everywhere
is present. Unfortunately the journey there is quite challenging and
long-winded due lack of highways, therefore a city tour is not on program for
the next time.
Eine grossartige Stadt für einen Osterntrip. Für mich ist Krakau
eine der schönsten Altstädte Europas, zusammen mit Prag und Regensburg.
Inzwischen hat der Touristenrummel ganz schön zugenommen, hat aber den
Vorteil das man mit Englisch ganz gut zurechtkommt. Das war vor 10 Jahren
noch ganz anders. Am besten ein Hotel im Zentrum nehmen, Auto stehen lassen
und zu Fuss erkunden. Der Marktplatz, die alte Burg und die Strassen um den
Marktplatz herum sind zusammen mit den vielen Kirchen die Highlights.
A great city
for a city tour. For me Krakow is one of the most beautiful old towns of
Europe, together with Prague and Regensburg. In the meantime the tourist
visitors increased strongly, what has however the advantage to travel along
with English as language is acceptable. That was 15 years ago completely
different. At the best take a hotel in the downtown, let the car stand alone
and explore the town by walking. The market place, the old castle and the
roads around the market place are together with the many churches the
highlights.

Die Geburtsstadt von Eva wird auch heute noch häufig von uns
besucht, da noch gute Bekannte dort wohnen. In dieser Stadt haben wir
kirchlich geheiratet. Die im tiefsten Schlesien an der tschechischen Grenze
gelegene Kleinstadt ist recht übersichtlich und traditionell geblieben.
Hotels sind noch Mangelware, aber darauf sind wir nicht angewiesen. Das
Shopping ist noch preislich interessant, auch wenn die Preise seit der
westlichen Öffnung kräftig angezogen haben, zumindest im Verhältnis zu den
erreichbaren Löhnen.
The birth
town of Eva is still visited frequently by us, due a lot of relatives and
friends are living there. In this town we married also in the church. This
town which is located in the deepest south of Poland near of the Czech border
remained about all the time traditional and could be easily overlooked.
Hotels are quite rare, but we do not dependent on it. The shopping is in
regards to the price level still interesting, even if the prices increased
strongly since the western opening, at least in relation to the attainable
income of the locals.
Im Rahmen unserer Südosteuropatour 1992 waren wir für 3 Tage
auch in Rumänien. Von Ungarn kommend sind wir über Bukarest weiter nach
Constanza am Schwarzen Meer. Von dort sind wir am Meer entlang weiter nach
Bulgarien. Die erste Nacht sind wir mit Blitzgewitter durch Transsylvanien
gereist. Nach Übernachtung in Cluc Napoca sind wir weiter nach Bukarest, das
zu diesen Zeiten eine riesige Baustelle des grössenwahnsinnigen Präsidenten
war. In Constanza haben wir die osteuropäische Bade- und Hotelkultur in Perfektion
erlebt.
In the frame
of our South-East Europe route 1992 we were for 3 days also in Romania. From
Hungary coming we continued over Bucharest to Constanza at the Black Sea.
From there we went further along the sea to Bulgaria. The first night we
traveled in a lightning thunderstorm through Transsylvania. After staying
overnight in a hotel in Cluc Napoca we went further to Bukuresti, which was
at these times an enormous construction site from the size-mad president. In
Constanza we experienced the Eastern Europe bathing and hotel culture in
perfection.

Die ganze Stadt war zu unserem Besuch in 1993 eine riesige
Baustelle des grössenwahnsinnigen Diktators. Da es bereits nach dem Sturz des
alten Regimes war, standen alle Bauaktivitäten still und die Kräne bewegten
sich nicht. Wenn man sah, wie arm das Volk war und was da im Zentrum von
Bukarest alles gebaut wurde, da hat man sich nur an den Kopf gefasst. Eine
weitere Erinnerung von mir ist, das an vielen Stellen Kerzen zum Andenken an
die vielen Toten des Umsturzes brannten.
The whole
city was at our attendance in 1992 an enormous construction site of the
size-mad dictator. Since it was just after the fall of the old regime, all
construction activities stood still and the cranes did not move anymore. When
you saw before, how poor the country side population was and compared what
was built there in the center of Bukuresti, you could not believe it is real.
A further memory from me is, that on many places candles burned to the
memorial of the many dead people from the revolution.

Ein netter Urlaubsort für den Ostblock am schwarzen Meer. Als
wir dort waren, gab es noch keinen westlichen Tourismus und alles war von dem
Schimmel des Kommunismus bedeckt. Es gab auf den Preislisten noch zwei
Preise: für Westler und Ostler. Wir haben in dem nebenstehenden Hotel
übernachtet. Der Strand war ganz ordentlich, das Essen auch, wenn es denn
endlich kam. Das störendste waren die Bedienungen in den riessigen
Speisesällen, die ziemlich unwillig nach der denke 'noch ein Touri mehr' die
Gäste abgefertigt haben.
A nice
resort for the Eastern Bloc population on the black sea.When we were there, there was still no
western tourism and everything was covered by the mould of communism. There
were still two prices on the price lists: for westerner and locals. We stayed
overnight in the hotel pictured on left. The beach wasproperly looking, the meals also, when it
came finally. The most disturbing thing were the waiters in the restaurants in
giant food halls, which dispatched the guests rather thinking: another shitty
tourist is disturbing me.
Meine erste Reise nach Moskau war noch zu kommunistischen Zeit
1987, die zweite dann zu etwas besseren Konditionen 1991 über Moskau nach
Togliatti. Bei beiden Reisen habe ich sehr nette Menschen kennen gelernt,
wobei in diesen Zeiten die Reisemöglichkeiten und die Freiheitsgrade dabei
noch sehr eingeschränkt waren. Es wäre sicher interessant unter den heutigen
neuen Bedingungen in dieses Land zu reisen. Zum Tauchen soll die Ostküste am
Pazifischen Ozean interessant sein, ich habe da von Riesenkraken bis zu 3m
gehört.
My first
trip to Moscow was still at communist time in 1987, the second trip then to
somewhat better conditions in 1991 via Moscow to Toljatti. On both trips I
meet very nice friends everywhere, however at these times the travel
possibilities and degrees of traveling around were very limited by
authorities. It would be surely very interesting to travel under the today's
new conditions to this country again. For diving the east coast at the
Pacific ocean should be interesting, I heard about giant octopuses up to 3m
there.
Als ich die Hauptstadt der Sowjetischen Union besuchte war diese
noch eine gesperrte Stadt und man konnte sich nicht frei bewegen. Das Hotel
wurde vorgegeben, es durften nur gewisse Plätze besucht werden und die
Währung war nicht frei konvertierbar. Ich habe das Bolschoi Theater besucht,
bin über den Roten Platz spazieren gegangen und habe ein Kaufhaus besucht.
Zum Flughafen wurden wir mit einem riesigen ZIL gebracht, in dem wir auch
schlafen hätten können. Bereits wenige Jahre später war die ganze Stadt eine
grosse Baustelle.
When I
visited the capital of the so called Soviet Union first time was these still
a locked city and nobody could free move around. The hotel was given by
authorities, only certain places could be visited and the currency was notfree convertible. I visited the Bolschoi
Theatre, walked over the Red Square and visited the department store GUM. To
the airport we were brought with an enormous ZIL, in which we could also
sleep comfortable. Few years later on my next visit the whole city was
already a large construction site.
Auch Togliatti war eine gesperrte Stadt und durfte nur nach
Einladung und mit eingeschränktem Bewegungsfreiraum besucht werden. Die Stadt
wurde um die wohl grösste Automobilfabrik der Welt, Volga Avtomobil Zavod im
typischen Still der 60ger Jahre aufgebaut. Die ganze Stadt besteht nur aus
Plattenbauten und der Fabrik, Vergnügungsstätten gibt es einfach nicht.
Anfang der 90'ger hatte ich eine Einladung für Klärungen zu einem Projekt,
dabei habe ich einige nette Menschen kennen gelernt.
Togliatti
was also a locked city and could only be visited with an invitation letter,
the movement was also very limited to some areas. The city was developed
around the probably largest car factory of the world, Volga Avtomobil Zavod
in the typical style of the 60th years. The whole city consist only of the
typical 60th buildings and the factory, entertainment places are not
existing.Beginning of the 90th I had
an invitation to consult for a logistic project and in this time I have meet
a couple of nice friends, which changed my thinking about this country.
Diesen italienischen Stadtstaat habe ich schon mehrmals besucht.
Liegt er doch direkt neben Rimini, meinem bevorzugtem Wochenendziel der
80'ger Jahre, als ich von München eine relativ kurze Anfahrt von 6 Stunden
hatte. San Marino liegt auf einem imposanten Hügel und schon die Fahrt hinauf
durch die Serpentinen ist spannend. Oben ist eine alte Burg und lauter
touristischer Rummel mit Kneipen, Restaurants und Hotels. Ich denke der Staat
hat nur eine Einnahmequelle, und das ist der Tourismus.
This small
Italian city country I have already visited multiple times. It is placed just
behind of Rimini, my favorite weekend destination in the 80th when the travel
time from Munich was just 6 hours. San Marino is located on top of an
impressive hill and already the drive up through the serpentines is amazing.
There is a fantastic overview about the Adriatic cost. On top of the hill is
an old castle and a lot of touristy infrastructure like pubs, restaurants and
hotels. I think that this country earns his income only from the tourism.
Dieses Land kenne ich nur von der Autobahn. Bei meiner ersten
Griechenland Reise habe ich den Autoput, wie man die Strasse nannte, auf dem
Rückweg von Olympia nach München in einem Stück durchgefahren, es waren so
etwa 2.400 km. Kurz vor München habe ich dann weisse Mäuse gesehen und hätte
sofort das Auto verkauft wenn einer vorbeigekommen wäre. Mich zieht da
eigentlich nichts hin, obwohl der Landstrich südlich von Dubrovnik noch die
besten Strände von ex Jugoslawien hat. Und die Unruhen halten immer noch an.
From this
country I know only the highway. On my first trip to Greece I have used the
Autoput, how this road was called at this time, on the way home from Olympia
to Munich. The whole length of 2.400 km I have driven in one piece. Short
time before Munich I have seen white mice's and if I had met somebody on my
arrival at three am he would get the car for free. I am not interested to
visit this country again, as well the cost line south of the Croatian
Dubrovnik has the best beaches of the former Yugoslavia. And the trouble in
this country continue.
In diesem früheren Ostblockland kenne ich die Umgebung von Nove
Zamky und Nitra im Südwesten. So einmal im Jahr fahre ich für ein Weekend
dahin einige Verwandte zu besuchen. Sprachlich liegt slowakisch zwischen dem
tschechischen und polnischen und ich kann es leidlich verstehen. Durch
Bratislava bin ich schon mehrfach durchgefahren und die Altstadt sieht
eigentlich ganz nett aus. Weiterhin müsste es auch interessant sein, in die
Hohe Tatra und ins Hinterland an die russische Grenze zu fahren. Tauchen sollte
möglich sein in den Seen.
In this
former east bloc country I visited the surroundings of Nove Zamky and Nitra
in south east. Once a year I am visiting for a weekend some relatives. Slovak
is a slavian language located between the czech and the polish and I
understand it tolerably. I passed through Bratislava multiple times and the
old town looks very attractive. It should be interesting to visit the Visoke
Tatry and the back side of the country on the Russian border. As I learned,
diving should be possible in some local lakes, cave diving is also practiced.
In Slowenien kenne ich nur Marburg und die Strassen Richtung
Süden nach Kroatien. In Maribor konnte ich ein paar Tage dienstlich
verbringen, als in Kroatien der Krieg herrschte und mein Kunde um
weiterführende Gespräche bat. Die haben wir dann auf neutralen Gebiet in
Slowenien geführt, in die wir Reisen durften. Die Slowenen haben es nach dem
Zusammenbruch des Altjugoslavien am schnellsten geschafft, sich selbstständig
zu machen, begünstigt dadurch, das sie keine direkte Grenze mit Serbien
hatten.
In
Slovenia I know only Maribor and the streets in direction south to Croatia.
In the new capitol Maribor I could spend some days on a business trip when in
Croatia the war was ongoing and my Croatian customer ask for further
discussions. This we have performed in the neutral area in Slovenia, where
traveling was not a problem. The Slovenians was after the crash of old
Yugoslavia the first of the new countries which gets independence, benefited
by the fact they had no direct border with the Serbians.
Spanien ist eines der beliebtesten Urlaubsländer der Europäer
und bietet an der ganzen Mittelmeerküste schöne Strände. Aufgrund des Sandes
sind da überwiegend keine besonders guten Tauchgründe. Bekanntere
Tauchgegenden sind an der französischen Grenze und auf den Inseln, also
Balearen und Kanaren. Die Mittelmeerküste bietet sich mit Ihrer vielseitigen
touristischen Infrastruktur für individuelle Reisen mit dem Auto an, wir sind
bereits die ganze Küste abgefahren. Weiterhin haben wir auch den Kanaren einen
Besuch gewidmet.
Spain is one
of the most popular countries of the European and offers on the Mediterranean
coastline very nice beaches. Due the sand the dive spots are mostly not very
amazing. The more popular dive areas are on the border to France and also on
the Baleares and the Atlantic Canary Islands. The Mediterranean coastline
with the versatile tourist infrastructure could be used for individual
travels with the car, we have already surrounded the whole coast. Furthermore
we have already paid a visit to the Canary Islands.

Wahrscheinlich das Ziel für die Jugend Europas. Ich habe selbst
Lloret dreimal in den 80ern besucht und das Nachtleben war das umfangreichste
das ich bisher erlebt habe. Jeden Morgen um 6 Uhr ins Bett, und dann um 10 an
den Strand zum Weiterschlafen und erholen für die nächste Nacht. Und wie ich
heute mitbekomme hat sich nicht viel verändert. Die Stadt hat im Winter
wenige tausend Einwohner, im Sommer bläht sich dann mit den Touristen das
ganze so auf, das auf dem riesigen Strand kaum noch ein Plätzchen zu
ergattern ist.
Probably the
first address for the youth of Europe. I have visited Lloret three times into
the 80th and the night life was the most extensive which I have so far
experienced. Each morning at 6 am to the bed, and then about 10 to the beach
for further sleeping and recover for the next night. And as I únderstand its
unchanged up to today. The city has in the winter a few thousand inhabitants,
in the summer months it blows up with the tourists so much, that it is
difficult to get on the large beach a small place for sleeping.
Die Fahrt an die Costa Blanca dauert länger als ein Flug nach
Übersee. Und das Autofahren ist anstrengender. Denia und Moreira sind ganz
nette kleine Städtchen, in denen der übliche Tourismus gemächlich abgeht. In
der Hochsaison sollte man besser eine Buchung der Unterkunft machen, da es
vor Ort eng werden kann. Ausserhalb der Hochsaison bietet es sich an einfach
ins Blaue zu fahren. Das Tauchen ist an diesen Strandabschnitten nichts
besonderes, die Sicht durch den aufgewirbelten Sand auch nicht besonders gut.
The travel
to the Costa Blancafrom Germany lasts
longer than a flight to overseas. And driving the car is of course more
stressful. Denia and Moreira are nice small villages, in which the usual
tourism goes off leisurely. In the high season in July and august it is
better to make a reservation of the accommodation, since the hotels are
mostly fully booked by locals and long time repeaters. Outside of the high
season it is a great funsimply to
drive into the blue. Diving on this beach sections is not very nice due the
whirled up sand.
Die vulkanischen Inseln im Atlantik sind eine normales
Urlaubsziel, Taucher sind dort noch ehe die Ausnahme. Im Zentrum der Insel
steht der El Teide, mit 3.718mder
höchste Berg Spaniens. Im Süden sind die ganzen Hotelburgen an den schwarzen
Sandstrände. Der Unterwassersicht schadet das aber nicht, wir hatten ganz
gute Sichweiten. Im Süden wird überwiegend vom Strand aus getaucht. Bei einem
Abstecher nach Norden war ich auch bei Puerto de la Cruz tauchen, hier werden
Bootstauchgänge durchgeführt.
The volcanic
islands in the Atlantic are a normal vacation destination, divers are more
the exception. In the center of the island is located the highest mountain of
Spain, the El Teide with 3.718m. In the south the whole hotel castles are on
black sandy beaches. Nevertheless the underwater visibility is not affected
by this sand, we had good vis on the dive spots. In the south the diving will
be performed mostly from the beach. Withinan excursion to the north I was also diving in Puerto de la Cruz, here
is usually boat diving performed.
Schweden ist ein Königreich in Skandinavien mit einer
angeheirateten deutschen Königin. Bisher habe ich in Schweden ein Wochenende
geschafft. Auf Empfehlung eines dänischen Freundes habe ich mir Smögen zum
Tauchen ausgesucht. Weitere Plätze an der Westküste sollen auch ganz
ordentlich sein. Bei einem Kopenhagen Besuch haben wir auch einen Ausflug
über die Oresund Brücke nach Malmö gemacht. Wie in den skandinavischen
Ländern üblich ist der Tourismus weitgehend auf Selbstversorger ausgelegt.
Sweden is a
kingdom in Scandinavia with a related by marriage German Queen. Up to now I
spend in Sweden only a weekend. On a recommendation of a Danish friend I went
to Smögen north of Gotheborg for diving. Other locations on the west costs
was also recommended to me. On a Copenhagen visit we have also made an
excursion over the Oresund bridge to Malmö.Like usual in the Scandinavian countries the tourism is mostly focused
on self catering, therefore it could be a lack of restaurants there.
Malmö ist die südlichste Stadt in Schweden und ebenfalls von
Skandinavien und liegt direkt nach der grossen Oresund Brücke die seit 2000
Dänemark mit Schweden verbindet. Durch Ihre Lage ist Malmö der
Durchgangspunkt für alle Autoreisen zwischen Europa und Skandinavien. Die
Stadt hat hohe Zuwanderungsraten aus ganz Europa und auch Nahost, dieses
macht sich auch bei den Stadtfesten bemerkbar. Bei unserem Besuch war gerade
ein derartiges Stadtfest im Gange verbunden mit einem netten Liveconcert am
kleinen Marktplatz.
Malmö its
the most southern city in Sweden and also from Scandinavia and is located
directly after the large Oresund bridge which connect Denmark with Sweden.
Through this location Malmö is the passing point for all car voyages between
Europe and Scandinavia. The city has a high immigration rate from all Europe
and also Middle East, what could be experienced at the city festivals. At the
time of our visit there was such a summer festival ongoing connected with a
nice live concert on the small market place.
Smögen
ist eine kleine Insel etwa 150km nördlich von Gotheborg. Aussen herum liegen
viele winzige Inseln, an den mit Boot getaucht wird. Überrascht hat mich die
Temperatur, die mit 16grd dem Mittelmeer entsprach. Auch die Landschaft und
Fischreichtum war durchaus mit dem Mittelmeer zu vergleichen. Der Tauchshop
ist sehr zu empfehlen, mit einem schnellen Speedboot werden die Plätze in
wenigen Minuten erreicht. Auf dem Weg überquert man auf riesigen Brücken
einige Fjorde, die Interesse an Norwegen wecken.
Smoegen is a
small island about 150km north of Gotheborg. Around this island lie many
small islands, on which the boat dives are performed. I got very surprised
about the water temperature, which was the same as the Mediterranean with
about 16grd.Also the landscape and
fish wealth could be quite compared with the Mediterranean. The dive operator
I can well recommend, with a fast speed boat the places are reached in few
minutes. On the way you cross some on enormous bridges some fjords, which
arouse more interest on Norway.
In die Schweiz geht man zu Schifahren, fährt durch Richtung
Süden oder geht nach Basel zum Käsefondue. Schifahren war ich einige Male,
ist jedoch verflixt teuer, da bleibt man lieber in Österreich. Den Käsefondue
habe ich auch schon gegessen und beim Durchfahren habe ich vorher immer
getankt. Aber da gibt es noch etwas: die Schweiz hat mit Fluss Verzasca ein
ganz berühmten Flusstauchplatz der manchmal sagenhafte Sichtweiten aufweisen
soll. Der steht schon seit längerem auf meiner Liste, bisher habe ich es aber
noch nicht geschafft.
For me
Switzerland is the place for skiing, transit country to the south or you can
try in Basel the unique cheese fondue. Skiing I was a couple of times, but is
very expensive, better to stay in Austria. The cheese fondue I have already
tried too and when I passed the country I have before filled my petrol. But
there is something more: Switzerland has with the river Verzasca a very
famous river dive spot which should have fantastic visibility. This is
already longer on my wish list, but up to now I could not reach it.
Die Jura ist das Wrack eines Raddampferschiffes das im Bodensee
im Konstanzer Trichter vor Bottighofen in der Schweiz liegt. Das Schiff ist
am 12.Feb 1864 nach einer Kollision im dichten Nebel gesunken. Der Entdecker
des Wracks etwa Mitte der 70'ger Jahre war der Schweizer Hans Gerber, der
auch heute Tauchausfahrten zur Jura anbietet. Klasse wie er das Wrack ohne
technische Hilfsmittel findet und den Anker 1m neben das Boot setzt. Da
meinem Buddy der Automat vereiste ist der Tauchgang etwas kurz ausgefallen.
Jura is the
wrack of an old wheel steam boat, which sunk in the Lake Constance in front
of Bottighofen in the Switzerland. The ship sunk on 12 February 1864 after a
collision in a thickset fog. The wrack was encountered in the middle of the
70th by the Swiss diver Hans Gerber, who also offer today dive trips to the
Jura wrack. Excellent how he find the wrack without any technical tools and
set the anchor just 1m beside the boat. Due to my body iced up the air supply
we terminated and the dive time was very short.
Ausser Manchester und London kenne ich noch nichts von England.
Um die Jungs von der Insel zu verstehen brauche ich zuerst ein paar Bier,
dann funktioniert auch die Kommunikation. In Manchester konnte ich
beobachten, welche Auswirkungen die Sperrstunde auf die Bevölkerung hat. Ab
21 Uhr steht die Panik in den Augen und die Trinkgeschwindigkeit steigt
rapide an. Letzlich vor dem Glockenschlag bestellt jeder noch schnell zwei
Bier, damit der Alkoholspiegel auf den erwarteten Level steigt. Im Süden soll
es die Riesenhaie geben.
Except of
Manchester and London I am not very familiar with England. To understand the
guys from the island I need at first a few beers, then the verbal
communication works also for me. In Manchester I could monitored the effects
of the closing hour of the bars to the local population. Starting from 9
o'clock slowly appear the panic in the eyes and the drinking speed rises
rapidly. Finally before the last round bell ring everybody quickly order two
more beers to get his alcohol level on his expected level. In the south are
seen the great sharks.
London

London hat viele Sehenswürdigkeiten, den Buckingham Palast, die
Tower Bridge und das Parlament sollte man sich nicht entgehen lassen. Das
U-Bahn Netz ist gut ausgebaut und auch ohne Auto kommt man gut herum.
Natürlich muss man in London auch die urtypischen englischen Fisch &
Chips probieren, ich war ganz überrascht wie gut die schmecken. Das
Nachtleben ist auch ganz gut ausgeprägt, man sollte sich jedoch auf das
englische schaumlose Bier einstellen. Ein anderes Vergnügen ist das Shopping
in Kaufhäusern.
London has a
lot of points of interest like the Buckingham Palace of the Royals, the
famous Tower Bridge and the Parliament. The Metro network is well developed
and you don't need a car to come around. Everybody should try in London also
the very typically britisch fish & chips, I was surprised about the good
taste. The night life is also well developed, however the foamless beer is
not everybodys taste. Another pleasure is the shopping in department stores,
the famous one only for window shopping.

Aussenstelle
der britischen Monarchie am Südzipfel von Spanien. Auf einer langen Spanien
Tour haben wir auch diese Halbinsel für einige Stunden besucht. Aber der
Felsen mitten auf der Halbinsel ist schon beeindruckend, speziell wenn man
mit dem Auto die Küstenstrasse entlangkommt und der Felsen im Dunst
aufsteigt. Interessant ist der Affenfelsen sowie an den beeindruckend
gebauten Flughafen der quer zur Halbinsel liegt. Vom Gipfel des Berges kann
man über die gleichnamige Wasserstrasse bei guter Sicht nach Afrika
sehen.

office of the British Monarchy at the southern tip of Spain. On a long tour
through Spain we visited also this peninsula for a couple of hours. The rock
in the middle on the peninsula is very impressive, specially if you comes by
caralong the coastal road and then
the rock in the ascends in front of you. A point of interest is the ape rock
as well as the impressive airport which is build transverse to the peninsula.From the top of the mountain you can see
over the street of Gibraltar on a good day up to Africa.
Der kleinste Staat auf dieser Erde ist wirklich klein, wie wir
an einem Wochenendtrip in die Ewige Stadt sehen konnten. Dafür hat er das
grösste Gotteshaus dieser Erde. Die Basilika St. Peters ist wirklich
beeindruckend mit ihren über 200m Länge und 138m Höhe. Da wird einem ganz
schwindlig wenn man die letzen 320 Stufen in einem engen Gang nach oben
klettert. Nachdem wir auch noch das Vergnügen hatten, den Papst zu sehen war
die Freude nur noch dadurch getrübt, das an diesem Sonntag die Sixtinische
Kapelle leider geschlossen war.
The
smallest country on this planet is really small, how we could experience on a
weekend trip in the eternal city Roma. But this country has the biggest
Lord's house on this earth. The Basilica St. Peter's is really impressive
with their more then 200m length and 138m high. You will get vertiginous when
you climb up the last 320 steps in a narrow staircase to the top. After we
had the pleasure to see the polish pope live was our delightness only clouded
because on this Sunday the Sixtinien Chappell was unfortunately closed.
